Teams competed in four events: computing track, cloud track, network track, and innovation track. Over five hours they had to take part in one theoretical and one practical challenge in cloud, 5G and AI.
In the computing track, the Grand Prize went to Mai Thi Phuong and Nguyen Tu Kien from the Posts & Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) and Duong Van Hiep from FPT University Hanoi.
In the cloud track, Bui Quoc An from the Academy of Cryptographic Techniques, Dau Van Khoa from PTIT and Tran Hai Dang from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology won the second prize.
In the network track, Le Nhu Quynh and Dinh Hoang Anh from PTIT and Nguyen Le Hong Khanh from the Hanoi University of Science & Technology won the third prize.
Having won prizes in the national and regional rounds, the teams will now represent Vietnam in the global final to be held in May in China with students from around the world.
"These achievements are proof of the distinctive talents of Vietnam’s younger generations," Huawei Vietnam CEO Macky Zhang said. "We hope to see you shine even more in the global final and contribute to the development of your digital economy."
Dang Hoai Bac, director of PTIT, which has sent many contestants to the event, said the wins are great encouragement for the students. "Opportunities to compete and interact with international students are vital for talent development in the institute and Vietnam at large."
Duong Van Hiep of FPT University Hanoi, member of the grand prize-winning team in the computing track, viewed the competition as an opportunity for acquiring new knowledge.
Instituted in 2015, the Huawei ICT Competition is an annual event held by the Chinese company together with the ASEAN Foundation for information technology students from universities and academies around the world.
This year the Asia-Pacific competition attracted over 8,000 students, with more than 110 entering the final round.
