Japan provides Vietnam with over 630,000 USD for mine clearance and classroom construction
Japan has pledged more than 630,000 USD in non-refundable aid for two projects in Vietnam, specifically mine clearance in Quang Binh Province and classroom construction in Nghe An Province, with the aim to improve the lives of local communities.
On February 24, in Hanoi, the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam signed agreements to fund these initiatives.

The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) Vietnam will lead the Quang Binh mine clearance project with 503,597 USD in funding. The initiative focuses on clearing unexploded ordnance (UXO) in the districts of Quang Ninh and Bo Trach, converting approximately 2.45 km2 of contaminated land into usable agricultural and economic areas.
Since 2015, Japan’s support has enabled MAG Vietnam to clear over 25 km2 of land, process more than 7,000 community reports, and destroy over 30,000 dangerous explosives.
The new funding will sustain three mine clearance teams, including one rapid-response team and two community outreach teams to educate residents on UXO safety.
Additionally, the project in Nghe An Province will receive 131,989 USD to build new classrooms for Kindergarten 2 in Tru Son Commune, Do Luong District.
Led by the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association of Nghe An, the project aims to construct a safe, fully equipped learning facility that meets national educational standards. This will enhance the local learning environment and ensure child safety, especially during storm seasons.
Japanese Ambassador Ito Naoki emphasised that these projects contribute to safety, education, and sustainable development in Vietnam. He reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s infrastructure, social welfare, and disaster recovery, announcing plans for four additional non-refundable projects to help localities recover from Typhoon Yagi.
The Vietnam Red Cross Society has launched a fundraising campaign targeting 1 billion VND to support the poor, people with disabilities, disadvantaged children, and families of policy beneficiaries across the country.
As of February 14, local authorities have provided support for people living in more than 106,000 temporary and dilapidated houses to build new houses, moving closer to the goal of eliminating such housing by the end of 2025.
