The “Dreams on the wings” fund, in conjunction with businesses, presents scholarships to disadvantaged-but-studious local children.

“Good wine needs no bush”

2018 is the third year the “Dream on the wings” fund for poor children has been launched by the Bac Giang provincial Association for Protection of Children’s Rights and Bac Giang Newspaper. Of note, this year, the fund sees the participation of the provincial Study Encouragement Association.

Since its inception more than two years ago, the fund has mobilized the support of 150 agencies, units and sponsors, with a total funding of over 1.2 billion VND (51,000 USD). The number of beneficiaries has increased through the years.

To date, there have been some 450 children who are in difficult circumstances and orphans in ten districts and Bac Giang city receiving scholarships from the fund. Besides, the fund has collaborated with other units to present gifts to hundreds of children in many townships and communes across the province.

“Good wine needs no bush.” The fund has proven effective, attracting the attention of many sponsors. Apart from agencies, units and businesses, retirees, Buddhist followers, children and students both in and outside the province have also participated in the fund. Many patrons have contacted the management board of the fund to offer their help.

The management board of the “Dream on the wings” fund, in coordination with businesses, gives scholarships to poor gifted children in Tan Thanh commune, Lang Giang district.

Such meaningful and pragmatic assistance of the fund has helped many underprivileged children in the locality go to school and have opportunities to make their dreams come true. Pham Thi Tuyet in Nghia Tien village, Dong Lo commune, Hiep Hoa district is an example.

She is the firstborn of a family of five children. One of her younger sisters is a disabled who needs regular treatment and care. Therefore, her family is in especially difficult circumstances and has been among the list of poor households in the village for many years. However, Tuyen and her sisters are very studious. In the 2015-2016 year, she passed the exam to the Gifted High School of Bac Giang province.

On September 9, the “Dream on the wings” fund will organize a ceremony to present scholarships to studious poor children and honor kind hearts from agencies, units and businesses as well as sponsors at Muong Thanh Hotel.

Learning about Tuyen’s situation, since the 216-2017 academic year, the fund’s management board has provided her with 500,000 VND (21.5 USD) each month. Tuyen said, “the fund’s assistance has helped me overcome material difficulties in the last two years at the high school while encouraging me to study harder in order to fulfill my targets.”

As a result, during three years at the high school, Tuyen gained the title of the excellent student. In 2016-2017, she won the third prize in literature at the national contest for gifted students. At the past graduation exam, Tuyen recorded high marks and entered the Foreign Trade University. Following her example, Tuyen’s younger siblings have become good students.

Another example is Nguyen Thi Hoai in Dia village, Tan Hiep commune, Yen The district. Hoai’s mother left her right after she was born while her father has to work far from home. Hoai and her twin sister have lived together since they were small. To have money to cover their daily expenditures and study, the girls have to do everything.

In 2016-2017, Hoai received the monthly scholarship of the fund, which helped ease her burden. Hoai and her sister have overcome difficulties to become good students. Both have entered the Vietnam National University Hanoi with 8.5 marks per subject on average.

“I have entered my dream university. The result is attributable to the significant material and spiritual support of the fund’s staff and sponsors,” Hoai said.
