“Dream on the wings” humanitarian programme shares difficulties with disadvantaged children

(BGO) - On September 9, the third “Dream on the wings” programme in 2018 was jointly held by Bac Giang Newspaper, the provincial Study Encouragement Association (PSEA) and the provincial Association for Protection of Children’s Rights (PAPCR) at Muong Thanh Hotel (Bac Giang city).

The event was attended by Dao Xuan Can, former member of Central Party Committee, former Secretary of the Bac Giang provincial Party Committee, PSEA Chairman; Le Anh Duong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; Ninh Thi Hong, Vice Permanent Chairwoman of Vietnam Association for Protection of Children’s Rights (VAPCR); Ha Van Nui, Chairman of Bac Giang fellow-countrymen Association in Hanoi; leaders of organizations, agencies, philanthropists and over 170 special impoverished children in the province.

According to PAPCR Chief Officer Mac Dang Khiem, his staff and officers have actively linked to the kind-hearted people to call for their donations to prepare the expense for children’s gifts for months. The reviewing task of special impoverished children was executed carefully and thoroughly in all districts and city in the province.

The “Dream on the wings” programme 2018 has received the donations from 42 organizations, agencies and kind-hearted people with a total value of over 500 million VND (about 21,500 USD). At the third event, 170 poor children were presented with gifts and scholarships.

The list included nearly 100 orphans many of whom lost both parent such as Nguyen Thi Thanh (born in 2003) and younger sister in Hiep Dong hamlet, Thuong Thang commune (Hiep Hoa district); Nguyen Anh Hoang (born in 2004) in Tan Thanh hamlet, Phi Mo commune (Lang Giang district) and Do Thi Hien (born in 2006) in hamlet 4, Phuong Son commune (Luc Nam district) among others.

Addressing the opening ceremony, PSEA Chairman Dao Xuan Can expressed the humanitarian meaning and the effectiveness of the event. The programme gave the guests a chance to watch motive short films about many impoverished cases in the districts and city and exchange to the children with good academic results recently sponsored by the “Dream on the wings” fund as well as meet the typical philanthropists.

Sympathizing with some cases, many donors decided to spend more on the donation, such as Nguyen The Diep, Chief Executive Officer of Hanoi based Hung Thinh Phat company presented the monthly scholarship worth 1 million VND (about 43 USD) to Trieu Viet Hung, a fifth grader in Dong Phuc Primary School (Yen Dung district) till his completion of Highschool; venerable Thich Minh Quyet, Head monk of Hoa Yen pagoda (Bac Giang city) provided Do Van Quang (born in 2005) in Trung Hoa hamlet, Mai Trung commune (Hiep Hoa district) with a monthly allowance of 500,000 VND (21.45 USD) till his completion of this academic year while Pham Thi Yen in Nghia Tien hamlet, Dong Lo commune (Hiep Hoa district) was presented a scholarship totally value at 12 million VND (515 USD) by Tuong Vi (Bac Giang city) and venerable Thich Minh Quyet.

At the exchange section, when being asked about the reason why businessman Nguyen The Diep has attached to the programme since the first event, he shared: “I find “Dream on the wings” is a meaningful and humanitarian programme that needs wider participation from the businessmen and kind-hearted people. We will continue accompanying and supporting the programme with a hope that the community sharing can help poor children not to be left behind”.

As the first time scholarship receivers, Nguyen Thi Thanh (born 2003) in Hiep Dong hamlet, Thuong Thang commune (Hiep Hoa district) and others were both happy and moved when watching the documentary film about many children with the same situation. Being encouraged by the kind-hearted people, Thanh revealed: “Other friends and I are so lucky to be here today to receive the support from many philanthropists in the programme. Without the precious facilitation, we might not have a chance to go to school”.

Thanh and her younger sister are living in a miserable condition. Their mother died from lung cancer 4 years ago while her father was killed in a traffic accident just 2 years later, leaving two kids to the senescent grandparent. Good news come to Thanh with the scholarship from “Dream on the wings” fund when her chance of going to school was so hard.

“I am so happy when hearing the news, I was almost wakeful last night to be here today”, Thanh said.

At the event, Vice Chairman Le Anh Duong honored three co-organizers including Bac Giang Newspaper, PSEA and PAPCR as well as kind-hearted organizations, agencies, enterprises and philanthropists who closely accompany the programme.

He affirmed that the event is an innovative and effective method with practical meaning to the movement of the whole nation joins hand for the poor. Besides, he hoped that the programme will be not only regularly organized but also further promoted.

Vice Chairman Duong appealed for the active donation from the local organizations, agencies, enterprises, kind-hearted people and residents so that the practical support can reach to more and more needy children.

The fund beneficiaries were encouraged to effectively use the scholarship, enhance the self-studying spirit and overcome the challenges to realize the dreams.

The organization board took the occasion to present the insignia as the tribute to the kind heart of the donors.

(BGO) – As of August 31, the Organization Board of the third “Dream on the wings” programme for the disadvantaged children in the northern province of Bac Giang in 2018 has received 395.8 million VND (over 16,900 USD) from the kind-hearted organizations, agencies and philanthropists, including 315.8 million VND (over 13,500 USD) in cash and several gifts of bicycles, books, notebooks and bag among others.

(BGO) – The Bac Giang Association for Protection of Children’s Rights and Bac Giang Newspaper organised “Dream on the wings” programme for impoverished children in the locality in 2016. After one year, the programme attracted many philanthropists and provided scholarships to over 150 children. Practical support has encouraged the children to overcome difficulties and gain good study results.
