Bac Giang actively promotes trade, expands markets for lychee

Updated: 20:12, 01/06/2020
(BGO) – Amid the Covid-19 pandemic’s great impact on goods circulation, the People's Committee of Bac Giang province has actively directed relevant agencies and localities to implement measures to promote trade and seek lychee consumption markets at home and abroad. To clarify this issue, Bac Giang Newspaper interviewed Lai Thanh Son, Permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee.

Despite the unfavorable weather, the province's lychee production is still higher than last year, with better quality fruits. Could you please tell more about this issue?

Despite unfavorable weather conditions, the lychee output in 2020 still reaches about 160,000 tonnes, 10,000 tonnes higher than the previous year. The result is achieved thanks to the province’s focus on directing the expansion of lychee production areas meeting VietGAP, GlobalGAP and organic standards ...

Many new technical solutions have been applied, along with creative ways in caring and preventing pests and diseases by garden owners, so lychee this year has higher yield and quality as well as more beautiful appearance.

To facilitate the sale of lychee, what are the instructions of the provincial People's Committee?

Amid difficult conditions due to border closure and quarantine for epidemic prevention and control, the provincial People's Committee has actively developed plans with different promotion plans and scenarios.

This year’s lychee consumption promotion conference will be held online on June 6, with 62 domestic venues with the provincial Convention Center as the main one, as well as two locations in Guangxi, Yunnan provinces of China.

At the same time, the provincial People's Committee has requested competent agencies to simplify administrative procedures, creating maximum favorable conditions for businesses and traders to survey, purchase and sell lychee.

They were urged to prepare sufficient capital, facilitate handling of procedures for getting loans, depositing and transferring money, trading and export of lychee; while ensuring power supply; styrofoam boxes and ice; restaurant and hotel services, and environmental hygiene...

Many people think that the successful lychee sale this year requires expansion of domestic markets and stable export to China. So, how do you think about this issue?

From the beginning, the provincial People's Committee has developed many plans and scenarios for the sale of lychee. Now the Covid-19 has been basically controlled, foreign businesses and traders have registered entry to survey and purchase lychee. Thus, it can be said that opportunities for the sale of lychee in domestic and foreign markets are equal, basically the same as the previous years.

For export markets, implementing the policy of diversifying consumption markets for agricultural products including lychee, in recent years, the province has regularly stepped up and renovated activities to promote trade, seek and expand lychee consumption both at home and abroad, while continuing to maintain the export of fresh and processed lychees. To date, Bac Giang lychee has been shipped to over 30 countries and territories.

At the same time, the province has continued a strategy to export to such markets as Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore ... Particularly, the Japanese market has accepted 19 cultivation area codes, with an area of 103 ha. The province has expanded lychee exports to other fastidious markets such as the Middle East, the EU, the US and Canada ...

Sincerely thank you!
