Bac Giang businesses work to ensure warm Tet for workers

Updated: 16:59, 12/01/2023
(BGO) – Despite facing many difficulties due to the lack of orders and affected production activities, many enterprises in Bac Giang province have made efforts to ensure adequate salaries and bonuses, and organize many activities to support workers, especially those from other provinces. This attention has warmed up the hearts of workers who live away from home whenever the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday comes.

Efforts to ensure jobs and income for workers

A survey conducted by the provincial Confederation of Labor shows that by the end of the year, due to inflation and the impact of the global economic crisis, the province recorded 11 businesses facing difficulties, mainly operating in the apparel and electronics sectors. As a result, jobs and lives of more than 2,000 workers were affected.

At Smart Shirts Garments Manufacturing Bac Giang Co., Ltd, based in the Van Trung Industrial Park, the working atmosphere in the last days of the year is very urgent.

Hoang Thi Nhan, who is in charge of the human resources department, said: "To encourage employees to accompany the enterprise, the board of directors and trade union have reorganized the production plan at each sewing line and each specialized unit, ensuring enough working days for each worker. At the same time, the company has paid full salary, attendance allowance, gasoline, shift meal and childcare support and seniority allowance for employees.

On the occasion of the 2023 Lunar New Year, the firm will deduct its profit to give the 13th month's salary to workers with an average of 5 million VND (213 USD) per person.

The labor sector forecast that by the end of the first half of this year’s first quarter, the difficult situation of enterprises will still affect about 4,000 workers, mainly in the fields of apparel and electronics. Therefore, in order to maintain production and business, and stabilize labor relations, at this time, along with taking care of workers on the occasion of Tet, businesses are developing plans to ensure enough jobs for them.

Meaningful gifts

In order to support workers from far away to have the opportunity to return to their hometowns to reunite with their families on this Lunar New Year, the Trade Union of provincial Industrial Parks will continue to organize the program "Accompanying workers to return home to celebrate Tet". It is expected that from January 19 and 20 (the 28th and 29th days of the last lunar month), there will be 25 bus trips to bring nearly 1,200 workers in difficult circumstances to their hometowns to enjoy Tet with their families.

On the occasion of the traditional Tet holiday, the organization will deduct more than 3 billion VND (127,960) from trade union funds and other sources to provide 6,000 gifts and bus tickets for trade union members who are poor, suffer work accidents and live far away from home.

In addition to giving the 13th month’s salary to more than 6,000 employees (6 million VND per person on average), the trade union of Hosiden Vietnam Co., Ltd in the Quang Chau Industrial Park has spent more than 1 billion VND (42,650 USD) to take care of the employees on the occasion of Tet.

At Luxshare-ICT Van Trung Co., Ltd in the Van Trung Industrial Park, with the nod of the board of directors, its trade union will organize many meaningful activities towards workers from far away. Bui Van Truong, chairman of the trade union, said that the company currently has more than 600 workers from the five provinces of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Ha Giang and Hoa Binh who are in difficult circumstances and wish to return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet.

All of them will be supported by the company with a bus trip to reunite with their families. In particular, the executive board of the trade union will hold a charity program in remote provinces, presenting 150 gifts worth 2.6 million VND each to workers in extremely difficult circumstances.

Nguyen Van Canh, Chairman of the provincial Confederation of Labour, said that on the occasion of the traditional Tet holiday, the organization will deduct more than 3 billion VND (127,960) from trade union funds and other sources to provide 6,000 gifts and bus tickets for trade union members who are poor, suffer work accidents and live far away from home.

It will coordinate with units that have signed cooperation agreements on welfare programs to organize 60 Tet booths offering goods at preferential prices to trade union members. The total value of discounts and gifts for employees at "zero-VND booths" is nearly 1 billion VND.

In parallel to supporting workers to return home to celebrate Tet, trade unions at all levels have joined hands with businesses to present gifts to workers who cannot return to their hometowns and must stay in boarding rooms. These are meaningful activities to share difficulties with and ensure a warm Tet for workers, especially those away from home.
