Bac Giang citizens in Ukraine get protection

(BGO) – Amid tensions in Ukraine, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DoFA) in Bac Giang province sent document about protecting Bac Giang citizens residing and working in this country.  

Immediately the document was announced, on March 4, the provincial DoFA received proposal from Than Van Duy (born in 1990) in An Thinh village, Tien Phong commune (Yen Dung district) specifying that his relatives were strained at Odessa city (Ukraine) on March 1, 2022 due to the war conflict.

Particularly, there are three members in Duy’s family working at Odessa, including his sister Than Thi Thuy (born in 1986) and her husband Luong Van Huy (born in 1985) who came to work legally at garment factory in this country in 2018 under labour contracts together with another sister Than Thi Van (born in 1988) who has worked there since 2019. Three persons have yet to return Vietnam since then.

Basing on the proposal, the provincial DoFA sent urgent document to the Consular Department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) to ask for collaboration with relevant agencies to have necessary protection measures to support these three above mentioned citizens as well as others living and working in Ukraine.

Now, they got assistance from competent agencies to evacuate to Romania with stable health and good living condition. These citizens keep normal contact to family in Bac Giang and wish to return homeland soon.

Romania is neighboring country to Ukraine.

To date, many Bac Giang labours working in Ukraine have been evacuated to Romania.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are about 7,000 Vietnamese people in Ukraine at present. However, the provincial DoFA has yet to define specific number of Bac Giang citizen in this country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has been working with relevant authorities, domestic airlines, and representative agencies in Ukraine and surrounding areas to make plans for ensuring security, safety, and conditions necessary for evacuating Vietnamese citizens from war zones and repatriating them if they wish.
