Bac Giang city currently has 14 markets with more than 1,200 kiosks, nearly 1,400 business points, seven supermarkets, seven shopping centers and more than 500 convenience stores, meeting the needs of consumers.

In 2023, the trade-service value (according to 2010 comparative prices) of Bac Giang city reached 12,858 billion VND (514.55 million USD), an increase of 8.1%. Total retail sales and service revenue increased 12% from 2022.

The development of the trade-service system also increases competition. This requires supermarkets, shopping malls, and business establishments to regularly reform, diversify services, and improve product quality. Traditional businesses and cooperatives in Bac Giang city are also constantly innovating and applying digital transformation in their operations.

In the near future, Vincom Plaza Bac Giang shopping center under the commercial area-housing project of Vinhomes Joint Stock Company on Ngo Gia Tu street will be completed and put into use. The four-storey building, including a system of restaurants and health care and sports facilities, is expected to open in early May.

Amid the rapid urbanisation, consumer demand in Bac Giang city is forecast to increase sharply in the coming years. To support and develop trade and services in a modern manner, the city has paid attention to investing in infrastructure, especially the transportation system; and developing functional urban areas and expanding urban space.

Bac Giang city targets that by 2025, trade, service and tourism activities will have breakthrough growth, accounting for a high proportion in the economic structure. This year alone, it strives for the trade and service industry to grow 8-10.5% and the production value of the service sector to reach more than 14 trillion VND (560.2 million).

Accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on a working visit to Japan in December 2023, Le Anh Duong, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, signed a memorandum of understanding on Aeon Mall Vietnam Co., Ltd.’s 250 million USD investment in building a shopping mall in Bac Giang province.

This is an opportunity for Bac Giang city to modernise trade and services activities, meeting the increasing demands of the people and urban development.
