Bac Giang expands screening tests to detect Covid-19 infections

Updated: 20:55, 03/04/2020
(BGO) - The provincial People’s Committee of Bac Giang province held an online conference with 10 districts and city on April 1 to review the fight against Covid-19 and layout urgent measures for coming days. Le Anh Duong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Deputy Head of the provincial Steering Committee for Covid-19 prevention and control (the Steering Committee) chaired the conference.

Facing the increasingly complicated developments of the pandemic, the provincial Steering Committee has proactively supervised sources of infection threatening to spread in the province, said Tu Quoc Hieu, Director of the Department of Health. Besides, the province has reviewed and made the list of 1,636 people returning from Bac Mai hospital since March 12 for quarantine and health supervision. In which, 228 people were imposed concentrated isolation, 1,048 were put in quarantine at their residential places and 276 people were tested.

According to Tran Quang Tan, Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, the commodity reserves and production capacity in the province can meet demands for necessities; thus, there is no need to worry about shortage of goods.

According to Dang Thanh Minh, Director of the provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC), currently the Center is only able to test 200 specimens per day while there is a large number of people prescribed for taking test specimens. Meanwhile, it is impossible to buy quick test kits for SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis because the suppliers prioritize Hanoi for patient screening.

In his conclusion, the provincial Vice Chairman Le Anh Duong said the province faces risk of virus infection from 2 main sources. The first is from the domestic affected areas mainly from Hanoi particularly the pandemic outbreak in Bach Mai Hospital. The second risk is from people returning from abroad but this source of infection is decreasing due to travel restrictions by Vietnam and other countries.

The provincial Vice Chairman Le Anh Duong urged the levels, sectors, units, enterprises and all people in the province to strictly obey the Prime Minister’s Directive on social isolation. The districts and city need to direct the local markets to open once per week and only allow people to go to the market for necessities.

Those who travel to Bac Giang daily from Hanoi for work have to stay in Bac Giang or work from home in Hanoi, not allowed day trip.

All people must wear face masks outdoors. Public transportation and ferries are temporarily stopped (except for employee shuttles).

This time, we need to continue paying high attention to grasping, isolating and supervising people from the affected areas while controlling all people with epidemiological factors especially those from Bach Mai Hospital.

Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Tran Quang Tan reports at the conference.

It is urgent to expand screening tests for exclusion, early detection and timely treatment. CDC and the medical centers in the districts shall take specimens. It is necessary to give testing priority for people at high risks who are in concentrated quarantine, people return from Bach Mai Hospital, people come from Hanoi with suspected symptoms, people return from abroad, pandemic fighters and reporters.

The districts, city, hospitals and medical centers should urgently buy medical equipment and materials to actively respond to the situations when receiving infected cases or detecting outbreaks in the localities. It is necessary to mobilize the organizations, enterprises and individuals to join hands in the pandemic fight.

The provincial Military Command shall collaborate with the Chemical Corp to sterilise the provincial General Hospital and some other hospitals and medical centers in the locality.
