Bac Giang has many promising young athletes

(BGO)- Recently, Bac Giang’s sport has a number of young promising athletes. Their outstanding performances in the national competitions have contributed to gaining high achievements for the province. 

At the national youth chess championship in Hai Phong, the chess player Nguyen Thuy Linh showed an impressive performance. The little girl from Duc Giang commune, Yen Dung district defeated other good players to be crowned champion at U11 standard chess category. Thanks to this achievement, Linh gained the ticket to ASEAN Youth Chess Championship 2019.

Bac Giang’s badminton team wins first overall place at national badminton tourney 2019 for excellent junior players.

Although she is only 10, Thuy Linh has practised playing professional chess for 4 consecutive years and competed at many domestic and international competitions. Previously, Linh won gold medal for girl’ team and silver medal at U10 individual category at the ASEAN age group chess championship in June 2019.

At track and field, Son Tien Phat (born in 2005), a member of Vietnamese youth team, bagged gold medals at the national youth track and field tourney for 2 consecutive years. Particularly, he was crowned the fastest in the men’s 600m dash at the age group from 12 to 13 in 2018, crown champion at men’s 1,500m dash and won gold medal at men’s relay at the age group from 14 to 15. With his ideal height of 1.7 metre, long strides and flexible fitness, Tien Phat is considered one of the promising faces to follow the predecessors.

By the end of July 2019, Bac Giang’s sport has bagged 47 golds, 57 silvers and 127 bronzes at domestic and international tourneys. About 80 percent of the medals won by young athletes.

After many years of training, boxing has gained high achievements in the national competitions. The excellent performance of Nguyen Thi Suoi Phan, a girl from Tay ethnic group at Vietnam’s Youth Boxing Championship in July helped the province bag the first gold medal at this sport.

Right after 2 years practising boxing, the girl born in 2004 was crown champion at female’s 60- kilo category.

Apart from the above-mentioned athletes, there are many other young faces showing great talent such as Than Van Anh, Tran Thi Thuy Cai, Vu Thi Hoa and Nguyen Manh Cuong in badminton and Nguyen Thi Thu Huong and Nguyen Thi Binh in shuttlecock kicking. 

Besides, The Nhat Minh and Vi Trung Kien are outstanding players in tennis while Mac Quang Huy and Nguyen Van Tuyen are representatives in wrestling. They belong to age groups from 11 to 17 with good background and conditions to continue reaching the peak of sport career.

According to Ngo Hoang Long, Director of the provincial Sport Training and Competition Center, “In order to have young athletes meeting professional requirements, the Center has implemented different steps especially enrolment and selection with strict requirements in physical strength and techniques in each sport”.

As a result, Bac Giang’s sport has maintained young generations for each sport which helps to gain dramatic achievements in different championships for different levels and age groups.

Since early this year, sport teams of the province have participated in nearly 40 tourneys (including the regional open tourneys), won 47 golds, 57 silvers and 127 bronzes. About 80 percent of the medals won by young athletes. A number of sports including badminton, shuttlecock kicking and chess are in top 3 in the national youth championships.

Ngo Hoang Long added, “In coming time, the Center will continue paying attention to training, building supporting mechanism for the sport talented classes in the districts to effectively fulfil the tasks of detecting, selecting and nurturing athletes, thereby supplying resources for the youth teams. Besides, we will pay due attention and give priority to especially excellent young athletes to build a key team towards the National Sport Festival and international championships.”
