Thanks to the active involvement of Bac Giang Newspaper, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Department of Education and Training; Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the People’s Committee in Bac Giang city, Bac Giang Newspaper Run has drawn the biggest number of athletes among the local sports. There are some 2,000 athletes competing in the contents of collective running and marathon on average.

The annual Bac Giang Newspaper Run draws numerous athletes.

Particularly, the 2018 event welcomed a record number of 2,700 participants representing more than 60 organizations, sectors and localities. The wide spreading helps inspire a new vitality to the sports movement in the delta, mountainous areas, highland and remote regions.

Prosperously, there is an increase in the participating delegations. In the marathon category, there were only a few participants coming from the districts of Lang Giang, Tan Yen, Yen Dung and Bac Giang city at the initial stage. To date, the event has witnessed a regular engagement from the mountainous and upland districts of Son Dong, Luc Ngan and Luc Nam. In spite of gaining modest results, these localities have proved for great potential for a fierce competition.

Additionally, many schools have paid due attention to the athletics and marathon; thus becoming an address to introduce the main athletes to the districts, typically Yen Dung No. 1 high school, Thai Thuan high school, Son Dong Ethnic Boarding high school…

To prepare the manpower for Bac Giang Newspaper Run, most of the districts and city annually hold a local running. If the tourney is not organized, the localities will select the athletes via the movement inspecting periods at the facilities and schools.

Also, the annual event helps detect many new faces to the track and field game such as the veteran and first level national athletes of Duong Thi Uyen (Luc Nam district), Do Van Chien (Viet Yen district), Nguyen Thi Linh (Lang Giang district), Pham Tien San (Tan Yen district) and young names of Son Tien Phat (Yen Dung district), Truong Thi Tham, Le Thi Hai (Lang Giang district)…

The performances at the marathon category create attractive and fierce competitions.

Especially, from the “launching pad” of Bac Giang Newspaper Run, the international runner Nguyen Thi Oanh (Lang Giang district) has been trained, developed to become the champion of SEA Games 29, bronze winner of ASIAD 18, 3 gold winner and 3 record-breaker at the National Sports Festival 2018.

Entering the 38th season in 2019, new positive features in calling for sponsor together with the linked programme of “Walking Journey” surely makes it an attractive playground for numerous residents and athletes in the province.

At the moment, all the delegations are selecting suitable athletes for the running. Typically, Lang Giang and Tan Yen districts held the marathon events early to evaluate the movement quality and seek new faces to add to the marathon team at the district level.

Other delegations like Bac Giang city, Viet Yen and Luc Nam districts planned to organize the runnings at the end of February and early March 2019, promising new vitality and higher quality for the traditional marathon vying for Bac Giang Newspaper Cup 2019 as well as deserving as the high-performance event of the provincial sports movement.

More than 8,000 runners will compete in the sixth Ho Chi Minh City Marathon, which is scheduled to kick off on January 12, 2019. The information was announced at a press conference held in the city on October 3 by the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, the Vietnam Athletics Federation, and main sponsor Taiwan Excellence.

The annual Sa Pa international mountain marathon 2018, the sixth of its kind, took place in Sa Pa district, the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai on September 21-23, as part of the Sa Pa autumn festival 2018.
