The ceremony was part of activities to mark the 140th anniversary of the Yen The Uprising (1884-2024).

Speaking at the ceremony, Le Anh Duong, Chairman of Bac Giang Provincial People’s Committee, stressed that the festival celebrating the 140th anniversary of the Yen The Uprising (1884-2024) aims to honour and pay tribute to leader Luong Van Nam, national hero Hoang Hoa Tham, and the immortal spirit of the Yen The Uprising.

The festival also affirms the role, stature, and great significance of the uprising to the nation’s history, thus contributing to education on patriotism and inspiring national pride and self-reliance among present and future generations.

Yen The Uprising is assessed by historical researchers as the largest, most persistent, and most heroic armed uprising of farmers in the nation's history against the French colonialists before the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The uprising was a convincing demonstration of the potential strength of farmers, and it contributed many valuable experiences to the treasure of Vietnam's military history. Specifically, the art of guerrilla warfare, people’s war, establishing fighting villages, and fighting while negotiating were creatively applied in the two later resistance wars against the French colonialists and American imperialists.

With its unique and typical value, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to include Yen The Festival in the list of national intangible cultural heritages on December 27, 2012.

In recent years, in addition to Yen The Festival, Bac Giang Province has also organised many continuous practical activities to preserve and promote the value of the Yen The Uprising.

The project of constructing the temple dedicated to Hoang Hoa Tham and the Yen The insurgent army and auxiliary works began on May 19, 2023, with a total investment of 184.4 billion VND, 99.6 billion VND of which comes from socialisation sources while the rest comes from budget source.

The temple and items in the relic site are a complex of spiritual and cultural works with traditional architecture, in which many elaborate items are meticulously built, clearly demonstrating the cultural and spiritual values and national identity.
