The participating teams are divided into 4 groups: Group A for contestants from 9 to 11 (equivalent to primary school level), Group B for those from 12 to 15 (secondary school level), Group C for those from 16 to grade 18 (high school level) and Group D for contestants below 22 who are studying and living in the province.

Each contestant is permitted to participate in only one team and compete in the right age group.

The competition takes place in 2 rounds including the qualifying and the finale. For Groups A, B and C, the qualifying round will be held on Robot Simulation (Robosim) software according to the contents of each group.

The contestants will design robots on the software and programme robots to perform the tasks following the contest rules on the virtual sand table. They will be scored on the system software to select 16 teams with highest scores in each group to come to the final round. At the finale, the competitions for robot assembling, programming and operating will take place directly on the sand table.

For Group D, both qualifying and final rounds are organized offline. 16 best teams will be selected to compete at the finale.

The Organizing Board will decide the format and competition rounds based on the real number of registering teams.
