Bac Giang mobilizes resources for green energy development

Updated: 17:20, 05/07/2023
(BGO) - According to the provincial Planning in 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050, Bac Giang strives to provide over 2,300 MWp of rooftop solar power by 2030. To achieve this goal and implement the Government's direction, the province has actively implemented solutions to develop rooftop solar power and create green energy source.

During recent stressful time of power supply, many residential areas and businesses had their electricity cut off alternately, causing disruption to daily life and production. However, family of Duong Van Nang in Noi Dinh village, Yen Son commune (Luc Nam district) was not worried about power cut because he invested more than 100 million VND to install the rooftop solar power system which was constructed by Viettel Bac Giang. This electrical system helps his family no longer depend on the grid.

“In the past, my family monthly spent 1.5-2 million VND on electricity bill. Since using new power system, we have save this amount. If it operates stably for 8 to 9 years, the installation cost will break even,” Nang said.

Crystal Martin Vietnam Company Limited in Viet Yen district installed rooftop solar power system with installed capacity of 1,166.4 kWp; New Wing Interconnect Technology Co., Ltd. installed 4 rooftop solar power systems with individual capacity of 1,244.16 kWp; Nichirin Vietnam Co., Ltd had 2 rooftop solar power systems with installed capacity of 1,209.6 kWp and 160.8 kWp…

Crystal Martin Vietnam Co., Ltd invested in two rooftop solar power systems which helps the company save about 1.2 million kWh of electricity per year or billions of VND.

The province has about 600 grid-connected rooftop solar power projects and more than 100 self-use ones. The electricity output from the grid-tied solar power system reached more than 8.9 million kWh.

Although Bac Giang province has lower sunny season with radiation intensity than other areas, there is a lot of potential for solar power development.

Bac Giang identified industrial development as the driving force of economic growth so the increasing electricity load makes higher electricity demand in the province, up to 4,500 MVA by 2030.

Therefore, it is very necessary to supplement electricity for industrial production in which priority is given to solar power development. By 2030, the province strives to provide over 2,300 MWp of rooftop.

To achieve the set goals, Bac Giang has actively implemented solutions including agreement to install and connect to the grid from solar power of households. Many businesses and households have actively installed self use solar power systems to ensure electricity for daily life and production.

Acknowledging the advantages of rooftop solar power, according to Prime Minister’s Decision No. 500/QD-TTg dated May 15, 2023 (Power Planning VIII), by 2030, the whole country strives to have 50 percent of office buildings and 50 percent of residential houses using rooftop solar power for production and usage (for on-site consumption, not selling electricity to the national electricity system).

The Ministry of Industry and Trade drafted regulations on encouraging rooftop solar power at houses, offices and businesses' headquarters.

Nguyen Duc Hoan, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said: “Various incentives for rooftop solar power development will open up new development spaces for the energy industry, mobilize large resources for investment from the society. In the coming time, based on regulations, the Department will provide specific instructions for implementation in the province to ensure maximum exploitation of lighting hours and light intensity.
