Bac Giang promotes cooperation with foreign NGOs

(BGO)- The provincial Department of Foreign Affairs of Bac Giang province (DOFA)  and the People’s Aid Coordinating Committee (PACCOM) jointly held a roundtable discussion on promotion of foreign non-governmental organization (NGO) cooperation with Bac Giang on November 27 in Hanoi.

This roundtable discussion aims to establish and nurture the relationship between Bac Giang province and foreign NGOs in line with improving the efficiency of promotion and mobilization of foreign NGOs to serve security and socio-economic development of the province.

The discussion was attended by Nguyen Ngoc Hung, Deputy Head of PACCOM and representatives of some foreign NGOs having implemented or planning to implement their activities in Bac Giang.

According to DOFA, in the implementation of the National Program on the mobilization of foreign non-governmental aid in the period of 2013-2017, the provincial People’s Committee issued the program on the promotion of foreign NGO mobilization, which identifies the priority sectors and lists of the projects calling for the donation.

Thereby, more than 20 foreign NGOs and donors implement their programs and aid packages in Bac Giang province each year. They come from some countries as Japan, Republic of Korea, France, the US, Italy, Switzerland, and Brazil working in the fields of medicine, education, general rural development, poverty reduction and environment protection.

A representative of LDSC (an American organization) shares his experience in carrying out the projects in Bac Giang.

In the period of 2013-2017, the province received and implemented over 200 aid packages with the total committed fund of more than 12.6 million USD. Particularly, the province received 5 new projects in 2018 with total donation value of 877,185 USD and 10 non-project aid packages valued at 55,000 USD. Besides, the foreign NGOs sent specialists and volunteers to support the province in English teaching and medical development.

At the roundtable discussion, the representatives of nearly 20 foreign NGOs shared about their advantages, obstacles and experiences in implementing the projects in Bac Giang. According to the participants, thanks to the connection of DOFA, their projects have received great support of the local government and related agencies and gained efficiency.

In the coming time, these organizations commit to consider for implementing the projects in the province. Of the 20 projects proposed by Bac Giang for implementation in following years, there are 7 projects in the education and training sector committed by LDSC (an American organization) to carry out in 2019 and 2020.

In addition, some participants suggested the projects in medical sector especially calling for attention to children suffering from thalassemia and cerebral palsy.

DOFA’s leaders promised to grasp the opinions at this discussion and hoped to continue receiving the support of the foreign NGOs while increasing donation values to Bac Giang province.
