Bac Giang puts agricultural products on e-commerce platforms, increases purchasing power, expands market

Updated: 21:45, 02/07/2023
(BGO) - E-commerce has been having a certain influence, contributing to the sale of local agricultural products. Recently, the Chairman of the Bac Giang provincial People's Committee has requested the relevant departments and agencies to increase support businesses, cooperatives and households to put agricultural products on e-commerce platforms, thus promoting the development of the digital economy in agriculture and rural areas.

La Thi Xuan in An Tru village, Tan Trung commune, Tan Yen district is a retired teacher. The over-70-year-old woman and her husband are still doing farm work and selling seasonal agricultural products such as lychee, honeydew, taro and peanuts...

Recently, she has used her personal Facebook page to advertise and sell products. Xuan said: “I recently harvested nearly 1 ton of taros. After one day of livestreaming and posting videos introducing the product on Facebook, my taros were sold out. Most of the customers are acquaintances in the locality. Each of them bought a moderate amount, so my family transported the goods to them by ourselves."

Along with selling agricultural products through social networks, Vu Nguyen Binh's household in Phu Thinh village, Quy Son commune, Luc Ngan district also puts goods on the e-commerce platform Postmart.vn of Vietnam Post. According to Binh, participating in e-commerce helps farmers to be dynamic, access modern digital technology, and find many customers both at home and abroad. As a result, agricultural products are sold more favorably.

Not only households and individuals, the use of social networking sites such as Facebook and Zalo, and e-commerce platforms to promote and sell agricultural products (both fresh and processed) is becoming popular among local agricultural enterprises and cooperatives.

According to the provincial Post Office, local businesses, cooperatives and households registered to operate 7,786 booths on Postmart.vn. In the past six months, the Department of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with the E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Lazada.vn and Postmart.vn, has supported more than 100 businesses, cooperatives and households to set up booths and put their products on the e-commerce platforms.

Wishing to help agricultural production households participate in e-commerce, in early 2022, the provincial Post Office and the provincial Farmers' Association signed a program on coordination in supporting farmers’ digital transformation in production and sale of agricultural products and goods in the 2022-2025 period.

The aim is to put local agricultural products on Postmart.vn e-commerce platform, Postmart.vn and Agri-postmart.vn websites. After more than one year of implementation, the parties have not regularly updated and grasped the operations of businesses, cooperatives and households on Postmart.vn to evaluate the effectiveness.

In order to promote the development of the digital economy in agriculture and rural areas, the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee has directed the People's Committees of the districts and Bac Giang city, and related departments and agencies to continue coordinating in information dissemination and skills training for number for agricultural production households; and guide households to do transactions on e-commerce platforms.

At the same time, they are asked to provide information on crops, output, harvest time, price bracket, types and grades of agricultural products for e-commerce platform suppliers.

For the rapid and effective digital transformation in rural areas, the Department of Industry and Trade asked the E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency to increase support in the field of national e-commerce, especially for developing localities such as Bac Giang; build and improve information technology and telecommunications infrastructure, meeting the development requirements of e-commerce; research and adjust policies in line with online business development trends.

E-commerce platforms should work to win trust of consumers and help them form online shopping habits. Units, enterprises, cooperatives and households need to actively participate in training courses on e-commerce for quick access and effective application in production and business activities.
