Updated: 22:25, 16/09/2021
(BGO) - In order to improve the quality of national defense-security education subject for high school students, schools in Bac Giang province have implemented many solutions to reform teaching content and methods, ensuring the combination between theory and practice.

Recently, we attended a national defense-security education class at Class 12A7 of the Tan Yen High School No. 1, with the AK submachine gun shooting practice lesson. Preparing for the lesson, the teachers prepared learning tools including 8 guns, MBT-03 shooting simulation machine and attached equipment.

Students were guided how to conduct each movement of three AK shooting positions, then took turns to practice. This was the first time school students had participated in shooting exercises with the support of the machine, which helped correct the line of sight to ensure accuracy. In addition, the imitation of the sounds of exploding bullets from the shooting simulation machine helped the students feel like shooting real bullets.

In order to avoid boredom, the school's teachers have applied many new teaching methods in delivering theoretical lectures. They use many electronic lectures and increase interactions between teachers and students. Lectures are illustrated with vivid sounds and images of national defense-security activities, so they are interesting.

At the Cam Ly High School (Luc Nam district), in order to improve the quality of the subject, the school has promoted the application of information technology in teaching. The implementation process focuses on combining realistic images with military games.

The exact assessment of teaching and learning results has been valued. After finishing the course, the school organises a school-level national defense-security contest. At the event, students can compete in many contents such as line-up competition, practising techniques to hang a hammock and disassemble an AK submachine gun, throwing grenades to the target, shooting the AK submachine gun, and 800m armed run with AK submachine gun…

Currently, the province has 98 teachers teaching national defence-security for high school students, of whom 14 have won the title of national excellent teacher. Regarding facilities and equipment for teaching, the provincial Department of Education and Training has directed the units to purchase them in line with regulations to provide for high schools and vocational training-continuing education centers.

Schools have promoted the integration of theoretical and practical lessons in the class; organized competitions and extra-curricular activities for students such as watching documentaries, talking with veterans, and visiting historical sites and museums...

Dao Thi Huong, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, assessed that the national defense-security education for students has significantly improved thanks to the quality of teachers, along with adequate preparations in facilities and equipment. Schools have promoted the integration of theoretical and practical lessons in the class; organized competitions and extra-curricular activities for students such as watching documentaries, talking with veterans, and visiting historical sites and museums...

In the coming time, the department will focus on directing schools to seriously implement the national defense-security education programme according to regulations, focusing on renovating teaching, testing and evaluating methods, paying attention to fostering the teaching staff, and recruiting more teachers with bachelor's degrees.

It will continue to closely coordinate with other sectors, especially the provincial Military Command and the provincial Public Security Agency, in directing, inspecting and evaluating national defense-security education at schools and educational institutions.
