Bac Giang to welcome SEA Games 31 in May 2022

It has been decided that the 31st SEA Games, hosted by Vietnam, will be held from May 12-23, 2022, having been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The decision was made following a meeting between Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung and representatives of the Hanoi government.

The Games will take place mainly in Hanoi, along with several other nearby provinces and cities, including Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh, Vinh Phuc and Bac Giang.

The organisers have also proposed some backup locations in case of any unexpected situation due to Covid-19.

In the coming months, the Hanoi government will work with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the agencies concerned to make plans for the opening ceremony.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will also cooperate with the Ministry of Health to make sure the 31st SEA Games will take place in a safe manner and be in line with Covid-19 prevention guidelines.

SEA Games 31 postponed due to Covid-19
The Vietnam Sports Administration (VSA) has suggested the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST) delay the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) to a more suitable time to ensure Covid-19 prevention and control, and the safety of participants, said spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang.

Due to the complicated Covid-19 situation, Southeast Asian nations have recommended to push SEA Games 31 hosted by Vietnam to next year.
Committee proposes organising SEA Games 31 in July 2022
The Vietnam Olympic Committee has proposed organising the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) in July 2022 instead of November and December this year over concerns about the spread of Covid-19 in the region.
