Bac Giang works to ensure power supply for industrial development
In the 2010-2020 period, the average growth rate of commercial electricity in the industry and construction sector in Bac Giang reached nearly 20 percent, making it one of the provinces with the fastest growth in the country in this field. According to the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, electricity consumption in industrial zones has continuously increased at a double-digit rate in recent years, with 63 percent in 2019 and 44 percent in 2020.

Recently, the Prime Minister agreed with the proposal of the Ministry of Planning and Investment to adjust and supplement the planning for development of industrial zones in Bac Giang province. Enterprises, when investing in production and business in the locality, must pay special attention to infrastructure development, with ensuring stable and uninterrupted power supply as a top priority.
In its planning for 2021 - 2030 with a vision to 2050, Bac Giang will have 72 industrial clusters and 33 industrial zones. The province plans to increase the capacity of the 220kV electricity network to 3,250MVA by 2025 and 6,500MVA by 2030. |
According to Than Duc Thong, head of the Technical Division of the Bac Giang Electricity Company, the unit has actively reviewed and had plans to supply electricity to the newly established and expanded industrial zones. The Northern Power Corporation is currently building power transformers, with the first expected to operate in 2022.
In the first months of the year, the Bac Giang Power Company urged construction, consultancy and supervision units to mobilize maximum manpower and means to speed up the progress of power works and projects according to plans and commitments; while coordinating with localities to create conditions for them in terms of construction ground, pole erection and wire pulling.
It is forecast that in the coming time, the demand for electricity supply for industrial production will increase sharply, as a series of corporations and enterprises continue to invest in the province. Meanwhile, the power supply in Bac Giang mainly comes from the neighboring provinces of Quang Ninh and Hai Duong. There are only two main sources in the province, namely the Son Dong Thermal Power Plant and the power generation section of the Ha Bac Fertilizer and Chemical Joint Stock Company. Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Duc Hoan said that in order to overcome difficulties caused by lack of electricity supplies, the department advised the provincial People's Committee to propose the Vietnam Electricity Group and the Northern Electricity Corporation prioritize allocating power sources for Bac Giang province.
Some power supply development projects have also been accelerated, such as the 600MW An Khanh Thermal Power Plant and the 220MW Son Dong 2 Thermal Power Plant. The Department of Industry and Trade has proposed the construction of solar power, waste-to-electricity and wind power plants and rooftop power systems in industrial zones and clusters in Viet Yen, Yen Dung and Hiep Hoa districts, and Bac Giang city.
In addition, the Bac Giang Power Company and the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to promote the reform of administrative procedures and minimize the processing time to help businesses gain the fastest access to electricity for stable production and business.
