Bac Giang’s PCI listed in good group

(BGO) – The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on March 28 announced the annual report on the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) 2018.

Accordingly, Bac Giang province made a leap from fair to the good group in the ranking with a total score of 62.20 (2017) up to 63.01 (2018) out of 100. However, the northern province was down on the ranking from the 30 position (2017) to 36 out of 63 provinces and cities (2018).

The analyzation of 10 component indicators of PCI shown several items with lower score than previous year, such as: land access 7.82 (2017) down to 7.34 (2018); transparency 6.73 (2017) down to 6.11 (2018); proactivity 6.05 (2017) down to 5.55 (2018); legal institution and public order 6.10 (2017) down to 5.90 (2018).

This was the 14th consecutive years PCI 2018 has been released basing on the feedback of over 12,000 firms, including nearly 11,000 private firms currently running the business in 63 provinces and cities across the nation and more than 1,500 foreign direct investment companies under official operation in 20 localities in Vietnam.

This year, Quang Ninh province maintained its top spot with 70.36 points, following by Dong Thap province (70.19), Long An province (68.09) and Ben Tre (67.67). The next top 10 localities included Da Nang, Binh Duong, Quang Nam, Vinh Long, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city.

The list also named other provinces and cities with high ranking such as Can Tho, Lao Cai, Vinh Phuc, Tay Ninh, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Khanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Nghe An, Binh Dinh…Meanwhile, two provinces of Lai Chau and Dak Nong bottomed the report.

According to Nguyen Cuong, Vice Director of the Department of Planning and Investment (DoPI), via these above-mentioned result, the DoPI will analyze and evaluate 10 PCI indicators in detail so as to clarify the reason for score increase and decrease; hence consult the provincial People’s Committee to timely instruct the sectors and localities to promote the achieved result and recover the shortcomings in order to increase the PCI.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the ministries, sectors, and localities to focus on launching online public services effectively at level 3 and 4, as stated in Decision No.846/QD-TTg, dated June 9, 2017, and Decision No.877/QD-TTg, issued on July 18, 2018.

Vietnam has moved up one place to rank 88th among the 193 countries in the United Nations E-Government Survey 2018.

Vietnam’s index of industrial production (IPP) rose by 10.9% in the first seven months of 2018, compared with the 7.1% increase reported in the same period last year.
