Cold to return for Tet in northern Vietnam
Northern Vietnam continued reporting high moisture levels Tuesday, with temperatures in Hanoi at 19-26 degrees Celsius, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. Starting Wednesday night, the mass of cold air is expected to trigger light rains, reducing temperatures by 6-7 degrees compared to Tuesday.

From Thursday to Friday, the plains will experience lows of 13 degrees, while mountainous areas will see lows of 10-13 degrees.
Once Tet arrives, from Saturday to Tuesday next week, northern Vietnam should enjoy sunny afternoons, and temperatures are expected to rise by 1-2 degrees each day. Daytime temperatures could reach 24 degrees, while nighttime temperatures may drop to 13-17 degrees.
U.S. weather forecast service AccuWeather reported that temperatures in Hanoi on Thursday could reach 12-14 degrees, and 13-17 degrees on Friday. From Saturday to Monday next week, temperatures are forecast to gradually rise to 15-22 degrees.
High-altitude locations like Lao Cai’s Sa Pa would see temperatures falling in the coming days, to 5-12 degrees on Friday. The northern region experienced two severe cold waves in December and January, with temperatures in mountain peaks plunging below zero.
In central Vietnam, rain is expected in localities like Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh from Thursday to Monday next week, with low temperatures at 14-17 degrees, and highs of 22-25 degrees. From Thursday to Saturday, temperatures are predicted to hover around 19-22 degrees due to the impacts of cold air.
Areas from Quang Binh to Thua Thien-Hue would see rain from Thursday to Wednesday next week, with high temperatures of 23-26 degrees, and lows of 19-21 degrees.
Localities from Da Nang to Binh Thuan are expected to experience rain and highs of 24-27 degrees. Less rain is expected in the south, with daytime temperatures from 28-31 degrees, and 21-25-degree-lows at night.
Southern Vietnam and the Central Highlands are looking forward to sunny days in the first week after Tet, with highs of 32-35 degrees and lows of 23-26 degrees. The Central Highlands is expecting temperatures of 17-32 degrees.
