Creative toys made out of waste materials

Updated: 18:38, 31/05/2019
(BGO) – With the skilful hands and rich imagination, many youths in the northern province of Bac Giang have created the slide, seesaw, swing…from the used tyres of motorbike and car, wood and iron bar to build up the children playground.

In many residential areas, people gather the construction materials or dry the rice …in the empty lands, football pitch and yard of the cultural houses. Some locations even become the waste dumping or gathering sites, leading to the lack of children playground in several localities.

Children at Vo Tranh commune (Luc Nam district) enjoy the toys made out of recycled materials.

The provincial Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (Youth Union) has instructed the grass roots youth unions to construct the youth projects and create the children’s entertainment facilities from the recycled materials while actively mobilizing the socialisation sources and promoting the creative thinking and active spirit from the local youths.

As one of the leading localities, the Youth Union in Luc Nam district has launched the contest of “Designing toys for teenagers and children from recycled materials” since December 2018, drawing the participation of 27 out of 27 grass roots youth union.

After 6 months, the organizations received 65 children tools and toys, mostly made out of used and recycled materials such as bamboo, wood, broken tyres of motorbike, bicycle and car as well as redundant iron and steel. Many units submitted creative and beautiful products, including the communal Youth Unions in Vo Tranh, Dong Hung, Cam Ly and others.

The Secretary of Vo Tranh communal Youth Union Luu Duc Hanh said: “For years, Vo Tranh No.2 Kindergarten School has been the entertainment location for numerous children in 6 adjacent villages. However, there are only 2 sets of toys that cannot meet the demand of children. Therefore, we implement this project to diversify their playground and bring them the lesson of saving and environmental protection”.

Apart from Luc Nam district, Tan Yen is an active district in creating the children’s playground from the recycled materials. 5 youth unions have made the toys for children from the used tyres, wood and iron. In last April, the Youth union in Nha Nam commune completed the swing and seesaw and put at the cultural house in Chua Nguon village.

Recently, the Youth Union in the Vietnam Korea Vocational College of Technology has called for all students to support the sets of tools and toys to the kids at Lien Tan village, Bo Ha commune. All toys were made of recycled materials from the college’s mechanical factory.

It seems to simple to make children toys out of used materials, but it is really hard to create the beautiful ones that are suitable to the age because it requires the carefulness and meticulousness so that the finished product ensures the safety to the children, close to the nature, stimulate their movement development and creative thinking.

The province is now home to 35 entertainment locations for the children with tools and toys made of recycled materials, 19 of which are located at Luc Nam district.

Dao Thi Huong, Secretary of provincial Youth Union, Chairwoman of the provincial Pioneer Association shared: “In the upcoming time, the provincial Youth Union and Pioneer Association will continue instructing the grass roots unions to further create the playground and toys for children from the recycled materials. Each union should actively call for the socialisation sources to equip more entertainment facilities for the children”.
