Updated: 18:13, 13/10/2023
The Vietnamese Women's Museum in collaboration with the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club held a cultural exchange entitled ‘Autumn colours of Vietnam and Japan’ on October 12, introducing the beauty of the Vietnamese 'Ao dai' and Japanese kimono.

The event was organised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations (1970-2023), the 93rd founding anniversary of Vietnam Women’s Union (1930-2023), and the Vietnamese Women’s Day (October 20).

The event included art performances, a fashion show, talks with Japanese and Vietnamese designers, and a photo exhibition.

Visitors to the programme could also try on Japanese yukata (lightweight robes for the summer months).

The highlight of the event was a mini fashion show introducing kimono and 'Ao dai' collections by Japanese kimono expert Junko Sophia Kakizaki and Vietnamese designer Nguyen Lan Vy.

Kakizaki, who has travelled 55 countries worldwide to promote Japanese culture, brought to the event 10 of her kimono designs praising the natural landscape and rich culture of Japan.

Meanwhile, designer Lan Vy, who was born in imperial city of Hue, introduced her 10 'Ao dai' outfits inspired from Vietnamese history and traditional culture.

At the event, Kakizaki presented a set of kimono, which has been handed down in her family for many generations, to the Vietnamese Women’s Museum.
