Delegation of China’s Honghe County pays working visit to Bac Giang province

(BGO)- Chairman of the Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee (PPC) Le Anh Duong on March 29 had a meeting with the working delegation of Honghe County of China’s Yunnan province led by Zhao Ruijun, Secretary of the County Party Committee to discuss on economic and trade cooperation. 

At the meeting, the PPC Chairman Le Anh Duong on behalf of the government and people of Bac Giang province warmly welcomed the County Secretary Zhao Ruijun and the delegates to pay a working visit to the province. He stressed, Vietnam and China are neighbouring countries with good traditional friendship for many generations. It is delighted that the province has attracted a large number of Chinese investors to the province. The cooperative ties between the province and localities in China have been also developed.

An overview of the meeting.

On this occasion, the PPC Chairman Le Anh Duong briefed the guests on socio-economic development of the province. Accordingly, Bac Giang is the 36th largest province among 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam with economic scale ranking 13th of the nation. In 2022, its economic growth rate reached 19.3 percent in 2022, ranking 2nd nationwide.

Despite facing numerous difficulties in the 1st quarter this year due to the global economic depression, the province’s economic growth rate soared at 8.4 percent, ranking 8th in Vietnam. The economic structure has been shifted from agricultural focus to industrial sector in recent years. 

Currently, the industrial proportion makes up for 60 percent of the province’s GRDP helping the province become an industrial production hub especially electronic component production. The Chinese investors have made important contributions to industrial development of the province. Besides, Bac Giang is the 2nd largest fruit orchard in northern Vietnam and tops the nation in lychee output. Lychee has been exported to China for many years including Yunnan province.

He added, the development of Bac Giang province is attached to trade connection with the neighbouring localities including Yunnan province and Honghe County. He hoped that the cooperative relations among the localities would be deepened and this working session would open up a new relationship between Bac Giang and Honghe County.

Speaking at the meeting, Zhao Ruijun informed, Honghe County borders 2 Vietnam’s provinces including Lao Cai and Lai Chau with Lao Cai-Hekou and Kim Thuy Ha border gates, of which Lao Cai-Hekou is the largest border gate in Yunnan province paying important roles in economic development of Vietnam-China border gate zone.

Zhu Jiang and Red River system runs across Honghe County. Its population is 4.4 million. Its GDP reached 42 billion USD in 2022, ranking 3rd in Yunnan province. Regarding industrial development, Honghe County has established the heavy industry system mainly non-ferrous metal, energy, chemicals and construction materials. This County also has a power plant and non-ferrous metal plant at a capacity of over 3 million tones.

With the mentioned advantages, he hoped Bac Giang province would send a working delegation to visit, survey and cooperate with Honghe County for economic development. Besides, he expected Bac Giang province to establish material supply chains from and to Honghe County in coming time.

Previously, the working delegation visited JA Solar Vietnam Company Limited in Quang Chau industrial park.

On March 28, Bac Giang’s Department of Industry and Trade and Yunnan’s Commerce Department inked a memorandum of understanding on fostering economic and trade cooperation at the headquarter of Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade.
