During the campaign, the Red Journey was held in 26 provinces and cities throughout Vietnam, collecting a total of 42,000 blood units to deal with the blood shortage during the summer while raising public awareness about thalassemia.

At the festival, the Vietnam Red Cross Society awarded certificates of merit to the blood donation steering committees of 26 provinces and cities participating in the programme.

The Red Journey organizers also took the opportunity to review the results of the campaign and listened to the opinions of localities on the difficulties and their suggestions for the organisation of the blood drive.

Concluding the event, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Viet Tien praised the efforts of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, local authorities, steering committees, blood transfusion centres and local hospitals.

He called for publicity campaigns to be intensified over the coming years in order to expand the programme to more provinces and cities.

This is the sixth time that the Red Journey has been organised.
