Fuel up students to go to school

BAC GIANG- Ahead the new school year 2024-2025, the all-level youth unions and young pioneer organizations in northern province of Bac Giang in collaboration with the committees, departments and agencies have implemented a number of practical activities to support needy students and cherish their dreams in studying. 

Meaningful gifts

Ngoc Thi Thuong Hien, class 6A5, An Chau town secondary school in Son Dong district is a poor student. Her father passed away when she was only 1. Her mother has to work very hard with farm work and hired work to manage their living. Unfortunately, Hien’s mother has been detected to suffer from cancer with costly treatment.

The Youth Union of the provincial Public Security Department present gifts to needy students in Sa Ly Secondary School (Luc Ngan district) ahead the new school year.

Understanding her family’s condition, the young pioneer team and the school board of An Chau town Secondary Cchool mobilised the sponsors and kind hearted people to help Hien with new school supplies and a scholarship worth 18 million VND (720 USD) in this academic year.

An Chau town Secondary School has total 871 students, including over 50 percent of ethnic minority students with high rate of those from poor and nearly poor households.

Apart from Hien, the young pioneer team and the school board mobilised support for 16 other needy students to gift them with books, school supplies, uniforms and tuition fee.

Recently, the Youth Union and Young Pioneer Council of Yen The district have collaborated with the district Education and Training Division, Women’s Union and Red Cross Society to organise the “Accompanying students to school” programme.

In line with the communication programme to improve students’ life skills and listen to their opinions and aspirations, the Organizing Board presented 10 bicycles and 40 gift packages, each worth 500,000 VND (20 USD) to the students from poor, nearly poor and especially disadvantaged households in the district.

Thorough activities

So far, the activities to motivate needy students at the beginning of a new school year have become highlights in movements of the youth unions and young pioneer organisations in the province, which received great support from many units and individuals with meaningful deeds.

The Youth Union of the Bank for Social Policies, the transaction office in Son Dong district in collaboration with the Young Pioneer Team of An Chau town Secondary School present gifts to Ngoc Thi Thuong Hien’s family.

In order to help needy households reduce expenses for school supplies, the Youth Union of Hiep Hoa district has directed the school young pioneer teams and youth unions in the district to launch the movement to donate books to schoolmates through the “small plan” and “book donation for friends” models.

Thanks to this activity, thousands of needy students have received books for the new school year. Besides, it educates students to love and share with their friends.

The timely attention and support has fueled up many students to make more efforts in study and become useful persons.

Le Thi Long in Huu San commune, Son Dong district is one of the beneficiaries from the “Your foster brother is a member of the public security’s youth union” programme by the Youth Union of the provincial Public Security Department, who has been supported for study until she finishes high school.

The “Your foster brother is a member of the public security’s youth union” programme has been launched since March 2023. This model has supported 33 needy students in the province with from 300,000 to 500,000 VND (12 to 20 USD) per month for each student (of different high school grades) and maintained the support until they finish high school (grade 12). The support fund has been contributed by the soldiers and youth union members from their monthly salaries.

Caring for students facing difficult circumstances who have good study results has been thoroughly carried out by youth and young pioneer organisations bringing practical results.

Particularly, the youth and young pioneer organisations in the entire province supported more than 11,400 needy students in cash and kind valued at total 5.5 billion VND (220,123 USD) in previous school year.

All of the young pioneer teams target to support at least 15 children facing difficult conditions in this school year. The practical and meaningful deeds have demonstrated the “support and love each other” tradition, which motivate needy student to continue going to schools.
