Geographical indication of Luc Ngan litchi protected in Japan

(BGO) - The National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam (Ministry of Science and Technology) has reported to ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the geographical indications (GI) cooperation with Japanese competent agency to facilitate GI protection in both countries.

Under this MoU, Japan will protect the GI for three Vietnamese agricultural products, including Luc Ngan litchi of Bac Giang province. Currently, this Office is promptly collaborating with the related agencies to finalize the procedure in the upcoming time.

This cooperation helps to save costs, protect and promote the products of each country. According to the World Intellectual Property Organization, GI is a sign used on products that are originated from a specific region, locality territories or country.
