Golf course chain - a new direction in tourism development in Bac Giang
New tourism product
The project to build 36-hole golf course on 190 hectares in Tien Phong commune, Yen Dung district and a resort system on the Nham Bien mountain range has a total investment of more than 1.6 trillion VND (69.3 million USD). The investor is Bac Giang QNK Joint Stock Company. In August 2017, the golf course was inaugurated and put into operation. Each month, this site welcomes about 4,000 visitors, with those from the Republic of Korea accounting for 40 percent and the rest being domestic tourists.

Development of the golf course system has been identified by the province as one of the solutions to promote services and tourism. Compared to many surrounding provinces and cities, Bac Giang has a suitable land fund for golf course development because of its low mountainous terrain. The province boasts many beautiful natural landscapes and popular tourist sites such as Suoi Mo (Luc Nam district), Khuon Than and Cam Son lakes (Luc Ngan district) and Khe Ro (Son Dong district), which can attract investment in the development of golf tourism in combination with experience and leisure tourism.
In recent years, the golf playing movement in Bac Giang has developed strongly. In addition, the number of foreign experts, especially those from the Republic of Korea, China and Japan working in local industrial zones, has a great demand for golfing.
Choosing businesses with potential
In the 2020-2030 period, Bac Giang province plans to develop 11 golf courses in a number of districts, with Bac Giang city as the center. Accompanying the golf course system are projects to build hotels, resorts and other entertainment facilities. "We invest in golf courses not only to serve entertainment needs but also to develop golf tourism in Bac Giang", said Le Anh Duong, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee.

To implement the plan, the provincial People's Committee has directed localities and relevant agencies to do well planning work and select suitable locations; actively invite businesses with potential and experience in construction as well as management of golf courses. On the other hand, the province has developed policies and mechanisms to develop golf tourism.
It has closely cooperated with the Vietnam Golf Tourism Association and travel businesses in this effort, with international tourists expected to account for 60 percent of visitors.
Nguyen Van Thuong, Vice Chairman of the Yen Dung district People's Committee, said the committee aims to attract investment in a number of luxury resorts and hotels. At present, Vingroup plans to survey 1,600 hectares of land in Tan Lieu commune (Yen Dung) and Dong Son (Bac Giang city) to build golf courses, urban areas and resorts. In the 2021-2025 period, along with a number of roads, Dong Viet Bridge will be built, connecting Yen Dung district with Chi Linh city (Hai Duong province), and linking the district's tourist attractions with their vicinities, especially the golf course in Yen Dung with the Chi Linh golf course and the golf course cluster in Quang Ninh province.
In June 2020, two golf course projects in the province were approved in principle by the Prime Minister. They are the international-standard 36-hole Bac Giang golf course and resort covering 140ha in Chu Dien, Kham Lang and Yen Son communes (Luc Nam district), with an investment capital of nearly 740 billion VND (32 million USD); and the 140ha Viet Yen golf course in Huong Mai and Trung Son communes (Viet Yen district) with an investment of more than 1,200 billion VND (52 million USD). Currently, the investors of the projects are cooperating with the People's Committees of the two districts to take steps for site clearance.
Bac Giang is among localities with the highest economic growth in the country, attracting many investors. In the future, the golf tourism product of the province will develop, luring domestic and foreign tourists. It helps promote services, tourism and increase state budget revenue, contributing to the general development of the province.
