Hiep Hoa focuses on meeting criteria for township status

Updated: 18:21, 05/11/2024

BAC GIANG – Positioned as a key driver of development in the western part of Bac Giang province, Hiep Hoa district has made significant strides in socio-economic development in recent years. With a focus on improving infrastructure and expanding industrial and urban development, local authorities are working to meet the criteria required to upgrade the district to a township.

In January 2022, Hiep Hoa was officially recognised by the Prime Minister as a new-style rural district. Nearly three years after this landmark achievement, the district has been upgraded to a tier-4 urban area, with substantial progress in key areas.

The Thang Town Southern Urban Area is equipped with synchronous and modern infrastructure.

To maximise its growth potential, Hiep Hoa has gathered all resources to invest in infrastructure development, particularly in transportation, with a focus on enhancing external connectivity.

According to the district Economy and Infrastructure Division, the construction of new roads and bridges to facilitate links to neighbouring districts such as Yen Phong (Bac Ninh), Soc Son (Hanoi), and Pho Yen and Phu Binh (Thai Nguyen) has been vital in expanding space for the district’s industrial, urban, and service development.

With its advantages in geographic location and human resources, Hiep Hoa is increasingly focusing on attracting investment and boosting industrial development. The district currently hosts one industrial park and 10 industrial clusters, covering nearly 900 hectares.

These areas have attracted 76 investment projects with a total registered capital of approximately 18.5 trillion VND (730 million USD), providing stable employment for around 22,000 workers.

In terms of urban growth, Hiep Hoa has secured investment in 10 new urban areas, spanning a total of 260 hectares. Of these, six have been fully planned, with 32 detailed planning schemes for urban zones, residential areas, and worker housing already approved.

On September 18, 2024, the Ministry of Construction recognised Hiep Hoa as meeting the criteria for a tier-4 urban area. Hoang Cong Bo, Chairman of the district People’s Committee, said this achievement reflected the continuous hard work and dedication of the Party, government, and people of Hiep Hoa.

“With the existing potential and advantages, along with ongoing investments, we are in a strong position to aim for township status in the near future, and further, city status,” he noted.

Following this upgrade, the district Party Committee has set an ambitious goal of turning Hiep Hoa into a township by 2027. To realise this, its Standing Board has drafted a proposal to seek a resolution from the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee on the construction and development of Hiep Hoa into a township.

In the coming time, Hiep Hoa will continue to maintain and enhance the criteria it has already met, while prioritising the mobilisation of resources to satisfy the remaining requirements.
