This initiative was raised by teacher Nguyen Thi Thanh Thiet, rector of the school. On every summer vacation, the locality regularly holds camping festivals attracting a mass of local people. “This year, when I raised the idea of opening food stall selling fruits, candy and drink at a low price to mobilize funds to help needy students, I got enthusiastic support from my colleagues and students”, said Thiet.

The teachers and students of Viet Tien junior high school still stand at the food stall despite harsh weather during the two days of the camping festival. Apart from the food stall, they opened one corner to exchange second-hand textbooks, children books and traditional games attracting numerous students.

Giap Le Nguyen Bao, a student of class 7B said, “As this is the first time we attended an activity to help needy friends through the stalls at the camping festival, we felt everything new. Thanks to the direction of our teachers, my friends and I can understand the meaning of what we are doing. Hence, we will continue carrying out this activity in the coming time to help more needy students”.

A number of guests enthusiastically support this activity because of its humanitarian purpose. They thought buying some stuff at the food stall is also a way to contribute to the charity program of the school. After the camping festival, about 5 million VND (215 USD) was contributed to the school’s charity fund . The amount earned from selling books was given to Dang Hoai Nam, a grade-9 student of Hoang Ninh secondary school who is suffering from a serious disease.

In order to prepare for the academic year of 2018-2019 continuing good tradition of the previous years, the School Board of Viet Tien junior high school has made a plan to mobilize the organizations and enterprises to give uniforms, books and bicycles to help needy students.
