Japan resumes issuing visas for Vietnamese employees

The Japanese Embassy in Vietnam has resumed receiving visa applications from Vietnamese citizens who wish to travel to Japan for working purposes, according to Vietnam’s Department of Overseas Labour.

The visa issuance was restarted following four months of suspension to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The embassy began to receive applications again from July 27.

Vietnam sent nearly 83,000 workers to Japan in 2019.

Specifically, visas will be granted to Vietnamese nationals travelling to Japan via direct flights for work or long-term stay with such statuses as business manager, intra-company transfer, engineer/specialist in international services, nursing care, highly skilled professional and designated activities.

Vietnamese employees will be required to quarantine themselves at home for 14 days upon entering Japan.

Last year Vietnam sent nearly 83,000 workers to Japan, accounting for more than half of the total workers Vietnam sent abroad.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, over 5,000 workers had to return to Vietnam within the first six months of 2020.
