Kep railway station to expand trade opportunities
Ready for operation
Kep is a second-class station on the Yen Vien (Hanoi) - Dong Dang (Lang Son) railway line. It is the starting point of two routes Kep - Ha Long - Cai Lan and Kep - Luu Xa. The station has nine tracks for loading and unloading goods, two warehouses with an area of 1,200sq.m, two soil yards covering 4,300sq.m, and a concrete yard of more than 27,000sq.m.
Kep station becomes international intermodal railway station. |
To facilitate the station’s operation, Vietnam Railways (VNR) has prepared necessary conditions in terms of facilities and personnel. Containers and cranes for loading and unloading goods are available in the warehouse area. The customs agency has also arranged 13 customs officers here to handle import and export procedures.
VNR General Director Dang Sy Manh said that initially, Kep station operates an average of 1.5-2 pairs of international intermodal trains per day on the Kep - Dong Dang – Pingxiang route and one pairs of trains per day on North - South route. Its handling capacity is from 80 to 100 carriages or containers per day. Freight includes electronics and industrial products, construction materials, industrial wood, and ore.
In the next phase, Kep station will build a bonded warehouse to serve import and export activities of enterprises in Bac Giang, Bac Ninh and neighboring provinces. It specializes in receiving refrigerated containers transported from the south which will then be exported to China. The second-phase capacity is expected to increase by 2-2.5 pairs of trains per day.
The import-export turnover of enterprises in Bac Giang province with the Chinese market is quite large. According to the Department of Industry and Trade, in 2022, their export value to China reached 7.5 billion USD while the import value 7.9 billion USD.
The establishment of Kep international intermodal railway station is essential, promptly removing difficulties, contributing to reducing production costs and increasing the competitiveness of enterprises.
Investing in transport infrastructure, logistics
The launch of international intermodal freight transportation services at Kep station will open up great opportunities for Bac Giang’s socio-economic development.
The 27,000sq.m concrete yard at Kep station meets requirements of international intermodal railway transportation. |
It will attract import and export activities of the locality and neighboring provinces, which is expected to create a "push" for the socio-economic development of Bac Giang province in particular and the Northeast region of Vietnam such as Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen. It will also support Dong Dang and Yen Vien stations in international intermodal transport.
Acknowledging that importance, Bac Giang pledges to do its best to make Kep station operate effectively.
During a recent field trip to Kep station, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Le O Pich directed the Department of Transport to study the upgrade and expansion of a road connecting with the station. Lang Giang district needs to develop plans to ensure traffic safety at the station; and coordinate with relevant units to arrange land for building an adjacent logistics zone.
Than Hai Nam, Vice Chairman of the Lang Giang district People's Committee, said that in the immediate future, the district will coordinate with concerned agencies to invest in a road connecting National Highway 37 with Kep station. In the long term, along with arranging land for the logistics area, the district will build a 43-hectare inland port in Huong Son commune, about 5 kilometers from Kep station, to facilitate goods transportation.
