At the meeting, Chairman of the people’s committee of Tan Yen district said the Border Guard College located in the district used to nurture and train a number of senior officials for Laos.

He also shared experience of the locality in building new-style rural areas. After 12 years implementing the National Programme on building new-style rural areas, Tan Yen district has seen dramatic changes and breakthroughs in rural development. 

The local people’s quality of life has been improved. The sectors of culture, education, health and environment have been paid special attention. The grassroots-level political system has been consolidated while security and social order have been secured.

Tan Yen district was recognized a new-style rural district in 2020 when all of its communes met the standards. The district is implementing the piloting model on developing OCOP products associated with ecological and spiritual tourism in Danh Mountain and eco-tourism along Thuong River in Lien Chung commune for intensive development of OCOP programme with diversified products. Tan Yen is targeted to become an advanced new-style rural district in 2025.

The experience in building new-style rural areas of Tan Yen district is that the district Party Committee issued the resolution and the district people’s committee made the implementation plan with specific steps and schedule. 

Besides, the district has launched the movement “Tan Yen makes joint efforts in building new-style rural areas”. It also promoted the solidarity tradition and high determination, effectively and flexibly applied the mechanism and policies of the Central government and the province, gained consensus and support of the people, businesses and agencies in the locality in building new-style rural areas. 

Particularly, the district has developed fruit cultivation on a total area of 3,600 hectares including 1,800 hectares producing under VietGAP procedures and 423 hectares meeting VietGAP standards (for early lychee, guava, pomelo and star apple). Currently, the district has 17 OCOP products meeting provincial standards including 5 four-star products and 12 three-star products.

On behalf of the Xaysomboun’s delegation, Phommakeo Bua Pha thanked Tan Yen district for their warm reception and sharing good experiences in building new-style rural areas. He hoped that Xaysomboun province would receive continuous attention and experience sharing to apply in his locality. Previously, the working delegation visited the ginseng cultivation model in Lien Chung commune and guava planting model in Phuc Hoa commune.
