Leaders attend ceremony to plant cherry blossom trees in Son La Province

As many as 200 cherry blossom trees were planted on January 22 at a ceremony held in Moc Chau District, in the northern mountainous province of Son La, by a Son La National Assembly (NA) deputies’ delegation in collaboration with the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarians' Group.

The ceremony was attended by Politburo members: Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Organisation Pham Minh Chinh, and NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong.

Speaking at the event, Politburo member Pham Minh Chinh emphasised that the planting of the cherry blossom trees is a testament to the friendship between Vietnam and Japan.

He expressed his hope that the planted cherry blossom trees will grow strong like the development of the strategic partnership between the two countries, for the peace and prosperity of Asia.

The cherry blossom tree planting ceremony was a meaningful activity in response to President Ho Chi Minh’s launching of the Tet tree-planting festival, bringing benefits to the country.

Earlier, on the same day, NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong paid tribute to heroic martyrs at the Tay Tien Regiment No.52 historic site in Moc Chau District.

On the occasion, a working delegation and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour visited and presented 100 gifts to workers and people living in difficult circumstances in the district.

In the morning of the same day, the NA Vice Chairwoman attended a ceremony to inaugurate the memorial house dedicated to the fallen soldiers in Xuan Nha Commune, Van Ho District, Son La Province.
