Love duet folk song and traditional operetta taught to young talents

(BGO) – Under the project of “Conserving and developing the cultural heritage of the Bac Giang provincial minority ethnic groups for the period of 2011 - 2020”, several classes have been held by the Cultural and Cinema Center (Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism) from April 10 – 20 to teach the Quan ho (love duet) folk song to 100 art talents in the Sub-region 3, Neo town (Yen Dung district) and Cheo (traditional operetta) to 60 others in Ngoc Thien commune (Tan Yen district).

The trainees are introduced by the Meritorious Artisan Hong Tinh (former artist of Bac Giang provincial traditional operetta theatre) about the traditional custom, origin, Quan ho exchange activities and the method to perform the old Quan ho folk songs as well as ancient Cheo melodies and excerpts including “Chuc cam hoi van”, “Dao lieu”, “Luyen nam cung”, “To vo”, “Con nhen giang mung” among others.

Among 49 old villages of Quan Ho singing in the north and south banks of the Cau river, five of which are located in Bac Giang province including villages of Huu Nghi, Gia Son, Noi Ninh, Mai Vu (Ninh Son commune) and Sen Ho (Nenh town). 

Since the Love Duet folk singing was recognized as world’s intangible cultural heritage in 2009 by UNESCO, Quan Ho singing movement has been spread out locally, helping contribute to the local various spirit life.
