Men rewarded for brave actions

Updated: 16:29, 18/05/2021
(BGO) - Le Van Duc (born in 1976) and Le Van Tan (born in 1991) in Cham village, Tang Tien commune, Viet Yen district, Bac Giang province were very surprised and seemed shy when receiving the Certificates of Merit and unexpected reward by the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee for the action of capturing a person who stabbed the owner of a phone shop to rob property.

Tan said: “Sang, the owner of the phone shop, is one of my relatives. At around 11am on March 1, 2021, when I was on the way home, a woman passed by and said that Sang's phone shop had just been robbed, and Sang was stabbed and seriously injured. Hearing that, I decided to go to the shop to see how he was. As soon as I reached the alley, I saw the villagers saying that "The robber has just run barefoot pass here". For a moment, I suddenly thought that Sang might have been taken to hospital, so I and Duc drove a motorbike to chase the robber in the direction the villagers pointed.

Citizens Le Van Tan and Le Van Duc (left) were awarded the Certificates of Merit by the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee for catching the robber.

Seeing this man running in the field from afar, Tan and Duc quickly chased him. While chasing, they called the police and people to coordinate in arresting him. Unfortunately, when coming to another village, the robber took off his coat and hid. The two men decided to leave their motorbike on the road and run barefoot to continue searching for the robber.

Being chased by the police and people, the robber was arrested nearly two hours since he committed the crime. He is Nguyen Minh Hieu (born in 1999), residing in Tan Tien commune, Hoang Su Phi district (Ha Giang province).

When asked if they were afraid of danger, when the robber had a weapon? Tan said: "At that time, I didn't think about danger. When we saw the robbery, we had to take action immediately". Tan and Duc were awarded the Certificates of Merit by the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, plus a hot reward of 5 million VND (218 USD) each, for their bravery.

Also on the morning of March 1, 2021, Hoang Ngoc Manh (born in 1995), in Yen My commune (Lang Giang district) discovered and caught a man who was attempting to steal a motorbike.

“I went to the field to help my mother harvest vegetables. People in my hometown often ride motorbikes to the fields and then leave them on the roadside. Suddenly, I saw a young man hovering around the parking area about 200 meters away. And I started to pay attention to him"- Manh said. The man looked around and quickly broke the lock of a motorbike and took it away. Manh quickly ran to the site, chased and shouted to seek other people’s help to catch and bring the thief to the police headquarters. “In my mind, I thought in that situation, if I didn't catch him, who would do it? I am a soldier who has just completed my military service. I think it's normal, if I see a thief, I have to catch him," Manh said.

At noon on January 20, 2021, when everyone was taking a rest, Do Van Xuan (born in 1979), residing in Dong Vuong commune (Yen The district) detected and captured a man who was stealing a dog from Xuan’s neighbour.

Colonel Nguyen Hong Son, head of the Department for National Security Protection Movement Building under the provincial Public Security Agency, said that in the first few months of this year, in the province, there were many citizens who defied danger and bravely engaged in the chasing of robbers and thieves, contributing to ensuring security and order as well as peaceful life of the people. Those brave examples have been promptly recognized and rewarded by the authorities and police force.
