A Sola Vietnam Co., Ltd., based in Quang Chau Industrial Park (Viet Yen) had about 400 workers staying to work during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday. This year, along with well controlling the Covid-19 epidemic, the company focuses on production, striving to increase export turnover by 6 times compared to the previous year.
Not only enterprises in the industrial parks, at the Ha Bac Nitrogenous Fertilizer and Chemicals Joint Stock Company (Bac Giang city), more than 600 workers divided into three shifts and four teams also worked throughout Tet. All the employees had their temperature and health checked and wore face masks to prevent the epidemic. On the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, the company exported the first shipment in the new year with nearly 1,000 tonnes of Urea, earning revenue of about 1.6 billion VND (70,400 USD).
Similarly, at the Ha Phong Export Garment Joint Stock Company in Doan Bai commune (Hiep Hoa), on the first day after Tet, more than 7,500 workers returned to work, accounting for nearly 100 percent of the total number of employees. In January, the company exported millions of products for 30 million USD. It is expected that in February, the export turnover will reach about 25 million USD.
According to relevant agencies, in January this year, the industrial production value of the province hit nearly 36 trillion VND (1.58 billion USD), up 31 percent over the same period last year. The figure is expected to reach over 300 trillion VND (1.36 billion USD) this year, a year-on-year increase of 21 percent.
Promptly sowing spring rice
On the morning of February 6, despite the rain and cold, officials and workers of the Nam Cau Son Irrigation Works Exploitation Enterprise (North Song Thuong Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Company Limited) were present at Lac Gian-Mieu Cu pumping station in Xuan Phu commune (Yen Dung) in the early morning to operate two pumps to supply water for farmers to sow the spring rice.

In this year's spring crop, the whole province strives to plant 48,200 hectares of rice, of which 97 percent is late spring rice. In order to actively prepare water resources, on the first days of the new year, pumping stations have operated dozens of pumps along the river system, focusing on collecting and storing water into in-field irrigation canals. By February 6, the total area of spring rice cultivation in the province was nearly 17,700 hectares of water, equaling 36.71 percent of the plan.
Dang Van Tang, Director of the Sub-Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: “During the Lunar New Year holiday, we regularly updated weather developments and guided people to harvest winter crops and prepare for spring crops. They were advised not to sow rice when the temperature is low. For areas that have been pumped with water, people need to take measures to strengthen the embankments, till the land, and keep water in the field, avoiding waste or lack of water for sowing”.
In 2022, it is forecast that the province's industrial and agricultural production will still face many difficulties and challenges due to the influence of the Covid-19 epidemic, but efforts to adapt and determination to start production right from the beginning of the year will be the driving force for businesses and people to complete the set goals.
