Tan Yen boosts linkage and expands lychee export

Updated: 15:52, 24/04/2024

BAC GIANG - The weather is not favorable but with close forecasts and good cultivation techniques, the early ripening lychee crop in Tan Yen district (Bac Giang province) still has positive signs. To welcome the harvest season, local party committees, authorities and people promote linkages to expand lychee export.

Tan Yen district has more than 1,300 hectares of lychee, mainly in the communes of Phuc Hoa, Tan Trung, Lien Son and Hop Duc and Cao Thuong town. At this time, local farmers have focused on caring for the small fruit. With fruit bearing rate of over 70 percent, the district expects to harvest about 15,000 tonnes at the end of May and June.

Representative of VIFOCO Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Bac Giang City) survey lychees in Phuc Hoa commune.

To be proactive in consumption, this year, gardeners, production groups and cooperatives have soon connected and found output for lychee. About 8,000 tonnes of fruit are expected to be sold domestically while 7,000 tonnes are exoirted to EU countries, China, Japan, America, Thailand, Cambodia and Korea.

Although it’s nearly a month to the harvest time, many businesses and units have come to seek information and sign cooperation agreements on lychee production and consumption.

To make export activities more convenient, this year, Tan Yen District People's Committee coordinated with departments and branches to separate the growing area code for export to the Chinese market (1 common code for the entire Phuc Hoa commune is divided into 11 codes in 11 villages) so as to ease the management and supervision of production processes.

The district maintains and expands the high-quality lychee production area for Japan and Europe with 3 area codes covering 25 hectares in Phuc Hoa commune; 3 codes for Thai market with an area of 42 hectares in Tan Trung commune.

At the same time, local authority directed units and communes to coordinate with relevant sectors to develop plans and organize direct promotion activities in lychee growing areas as early as the end of May; actively participate and launch lychee promotion conferences associated with developing local experiential tourism.

Representatives of businesses sign a cooperation program to produce and consume Phuc Hoa lychees in the European market in 2024-2028 period.

According to Nguyen Viet Toan, Chairman of the District People's Committee, compared to last year, this year, businesses and traders from other countries come to the locality to learn about products and purchase lychees earlier. The production linkage and product consumption help secure local people when the harvest comes.

To promote consumption of early ripening lychee in domestic and foreign markets associated with promoting lychee products, Tan Yen district has implememted many solutions to support farmers.

The District People's Committee directed communes to soon arrange parking areas, strengthen support forces, develop traffic routing plans and organize reasonable purchasing points.

At the same time, local functional agencies, communes and towns were urged to prepare conditions and support lychee growers, businesses, domestic and foreign traders to consume lychees most conveniently.
