Tan Yen stamps on farm produce for origin traceability

Easily identifying the product origin
It is the harvest time of Cua Song star apple fruit in Hop Duc commune (Tan Yen district). According to Nguyen Van Cuong, Director of Hop Duc Star Apple Production and Consumption Cooperative, 30 member households have stamped for the fruits’ origin traceability.

By using a smartphone with the Internet to scan the bar code on the stamp, the customers can know the product information such as place of production, time of cultivation, caring procedure and time of harvest.
The stamp helps ease consumption. Recently, the tradesmen have visited each orchard to buy 2 tonnes of fruits with an average price of 40,000 VND (1.72 USD) per kilogram, up 5,000 VND per kilogram comparing to the same period last year. Also, two store chains in Hanoi city have shown their interest in a huge order to the cooperative’s fruit.
To date, the district has 7 products with a certificate of collective brand protection bestowed by the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam (Ministry of Science and Technology), including 4 commodities with the stamp for origin traceability. Similarly, the product of Tan Yen clean pork has been stamped before selling to the market that helps affirm the trademark and ease the user to search for the product origin.
Ngo Xuan Luong, Director of Tan Yen Breeding and Clean Pork Consumption Cooperative in Ngoc Chau commune said: “The Cooperative daily supplies about 200 – 300 kilograms of pork to several canteens in the schools, industrial parks and stores in and outside the province. The product is packed and stamped for clear origin. By this method, Tan Yen Clean Pork has enjoyed convenient consumption and customers’ belief for over one year”.

Defining the trademark building importance in increasing the value and competitiveness of the agricultural products, the district has prioritized to mobilize the expense of stamp for origin traceability from now on till 2020. The trademarks of the major staples like fruits, peanut, red scallion…are protecting by the district authority. After receiving the certificate of the collective brand, the local authority will immediately design the stamp and label to increase the competitiveness and ease the consumption.

To fulfil the target, apart from the provincial budget, the district has mobilized the local capital to support each agency with 40 million VND (1,700 USD) to make the stamp and 5- 30 million VND (215 – 1,200 USD) to register the certificate of VietGAP, GlobalGAP.
Besides, the orchard cultivation area (longan, guava, star apple, lychee) should be expanded while many concentrated production regions are supported to build the warehouse, processing facility, seedling, materials and trade promotion. Typically, the district has invested nearly 300 million VND (over 12,900 USD) in infrastructure construction to Quang Vinh Agriculture Cooperative in Cao Xa commune and Quang Trung Agriculture Cooperative in Lan Gioi commune
Adding to the district support programme, the farmers should actively join the linkage chain of hi-tech production to meet the demand and ease the stamp for origin traceability.
