Teachers turn hope into reality: Education and Training Minister

Updated: 10:29, 19/11/2024

The Ministry of Education and Training, the Vietnam Education Union, and Vietnam Television hosted the “Words of Gratitude” programme themed “Hope” to honour the dedication and contributions of teachers across the nation.

On November 17, the programme saw leaders from the Ministry of Education and Training, representatives from central agencies, and over 400 teachers representing more than 1 million teachers and education managers nationwide.

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son speaking at the event.

The programme featured inspiring and heartfelt stories of devoted teachers working in challenging conditions. The production team travelled to provinces like Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Thua Thien Hue, and Gia Lai to capture the efforts of educators striving to improve education quality through creativity and dedication.

Among these stories was that of teacher Vu Van Tung from Dinh Nup Primary and Secondary School in Gia Lai Province. For nearly five years, he has travelled 40 km, three times a week, with a box of free bread to support impoverished students. Teacher Tung believes that ensuring students have enough to eat is key to keeping them in school.

His “Free Bread Cabinet” initiative has also provided goats and cows to help families in need, making a lasting impact on the community. Out of respect, local villagers affectionately gave him the Ba Na name “Dinh Tung.”

Speaking at the event, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son emphasised that education shapes the future, and teachers are the driving force that turns hope into reality. “Through your dedication and love for teaching, you embody the essence of this noble profession,” he said.

The Minister expressed his deep gratitude to all teachers for their resilience and optimism despite challenges. He called on educators to continue fostering creativity and adapting to changes to further the nation’s educational progress.

He also extended thanks to the Party, State leaders, and society for their ongoing support of education and to parents for their trust and collaboration with schools. The programme concluded as a heartfelt tribute to teachers who continue to inspire hope and transformation in Vietnam’s educational landscape.
