Three Vietnamese universities enter Times Higher Education rankings

Three universities of Vietnam have entered the World University Rankings 2000 of the Times Higher Education (THE) magazine for the first time.

The Vietnam National University (VNU) – Hanoi and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) make onto the list of world’s top 800-1000 while the VNU – Ho Chi Minh City is in the 1000+ group.

Among the three Vietnamese educational establishments in the rankings, the VNU – Hanoi takes the lead in scores for teaching, research and international outlook while the VNU – HCM City comes first in scores for industry income. The HUST holds the highest scores for citation.

The University of Oxford for the fourth year in a row leads the rankings. The California Institute of Technology rises three places to second, followed by the University of Cambridge, Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Meanwhile, top 1,000 also sees 16 universities in Thailand, 13 in Malaysia, six in Indonesia and two in Singapore. One school in Thailand and two in Malaysia are ranked 801-1,000th.

The THE World University Rankings 2020 includes almost 1,400 universities across 92 countries and territories, standing as the largest and most diverse university rankings ever to date.

The table is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators which are grouped into five areas of Teaching (the learning environment); Research (volume, income and reputation); Citations (research influence); International outlook (staff, students and research); and Industry Income (knowledge transfer).

IFC helps universities improve training capacity
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) – a member of the World Bank – signed a cooperation agreement with the Hanoi Architectural University and the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture on February 26 to improve training capacity and to build a contingent of construction architects and engineers for green buildings in Vietnam. 
Quality of Vietnamese universities improves
Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City has placed among the top 25 universities and research institutes in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in terms of scientific research articles (ISI) published in the world's leading prestigious journals.
Two more Vietnamese universities enter Asia’s best list
Two more Vietnamese universities have been named in a list of Asia’s top universities, bringing to seven the country’s number of universities on the list compiled by the London-based education consultancy Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
Vietnamese, Russian universities secure 23 deals
About 40 universities of Vietnam and Russia signed 23 framework documents on cooperation in training and scientific research in Moscow, Russia, on September 7, in the framework of the official visit by Vietnamese Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong.
Five Vietnamese universities listed in QS Asia rankings
Five Vietnamese universities have been listed in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia University Rankings, an annually issued rating which provides an insight into the region's 400 leading institutions.
