Viet Yen township is the Southwest gateway of Bac Giang province, located in the direct influence area of ​​the key economic region of Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh... so it has received due investment from Central Government and province in socio-economic development and urban infrastructure system.

During 2021-2023, the township economy maintained a high growth rate, reaching an average of more than 25.56% as the economic driving head of Bac Giang province with the total production value in the area accounting for nearly 64.2% of the province's production value.

After reviewing and evaluating the standards on population scale, natural area, number of affiliated administrative units; level of socio-economic development and specific factors among others, on May 27, 2024, the Minister of Home Affairs issued Decision No. 381/QD-BNV classifying Viet Yen urban area in Bac Giang province as first grade district-level administrative unit.

It will be a basis for Viet Yen township to implement appropriate regimes and policies for officials and civil servants, helping ensure the stability of local administrative units and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of local state administrative management.

At the same time, the recognition is the basis for the province and township to make plan and programs for socio-economic development, national defense and security, determine the scale and local development orientation in the socio-economic development strategy of Bac Giang province in general and Viet Yen township in particular in the coming period.
