Vietnam loses billionaire on Forbes world’s richest list

Vietnam has six billionaires on the 2023 Forbes list of the planet’s richest people, down from seven last year.

The six local billionaires included this year are private conglomerate Vingroup chairman Pham Nhat Vuong, VietJet Air CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, steelmaker Hoa Phat chairman Tran Dinh Long, Techcombank chairman Ho Hung Anh, Truong Hai Auto Company (Thaco) chairman Tran Ba Duong and conglomerate Masan chairman Nguyen Dang Quang.

Six Vietnamese billionaires in Forbes's list of world's richest in 2023.

Real estate developer Nova Group chairman Bui Thanh Nhon was not included on this year’s list. He made it to the list for the first time last year, with a total asset value of $2.9 billion.

All the Vietnamese billionaires saw reduced asset values compared to last year.

Vuong now has an asset value of $4.3 billion, down from $6.2 billion last year. This is the 11th year that he’s appeared on the list.

Thao has an asset value of $2.2 billion this year, down from $3.1 billion last year. She is also the deputy chairwoman of the HDBank management board.

Long recorded an asset value of $1.8 billion this year, down from $3.2 billion last year.

Hung Anh has an asset value of $1.5 billion. This is the 5th time he’s been included in the list.

Duong has an asset value of $1.5 billion this year. He has been on the list since 2018.

Quang has an asset value of $1.3 billion this year. This is the 3rd year that he’s been included on the list.

The Forbes listing used stock prices and exchange rates on March 10, 2023 to calculate the net worth of individuals.

This year, the world has 2,640 billionaires, 28 fewer than last year, according to the magazine. In total, they possess $12.2 trillion in wealth, a drop of $500 billion from last year.

The richest person on the planet is chairman and CEO of LVMH, Bernard Arnault, with an asset value of $211 billion. He is followed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk at $180 billion, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos at $114 billion, and chairman of Oracle Larry Ellison at $107 billion.
