Vietnam ranks 4th safest country in Southeast Asia

Updated: 20:34, 26/03/2025

Vietnam was named the fourth safest country in Southeast Asia after Singapore, Brunei, and Thailand, according to the latest report published by Numbeo, the world's largest database of user-contributed data.

The report assessed safety in 146 countries and territories worldwide, using public perceptions of safety for walking both day and night, as well as reports of murder, robbery, sexual and physical assault, harassment, and property crime.

Countries with a high safety index are considered very safe.

Vietnam's safety index was 59.2 out of 100, higher than its neighbors such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Cambodia.

In Southeast Asia, Singapore achieved the highest score with 77.4. Known for its strict laws and low crime rates, the city-state has earned a reputation as a safe destination for tourists.

Thanks to political stability and a high level of safety, Vietnam has become a favorite destination for foreign tourists.

Last year, the country welcomed 17.6 million foreign visitors, approaching pre-pandemic levels seen in 2019. This year, it targets 22-23 million foreign tourists.

International media outlets have frequently praised Vietnam as one of the safest places for solo travelers.

Globally, Andorra, the sixth-smallest state in Europe, was named the safest country in the world by Numbeo, while Venezuela was ranked the most dangerous country.
