Updated: 12:45, 11/11/2020
Universal Pictures plans to do an English-language remake of the Vietnamese action comedy "Saigon Bodyguards" starring Chris Pratt and Wu Jing.

The news was first reported by entertainment site Deadline Hollywood and later by other outlets like Variety and IMDb.

American actor Chris Pratt.

Released in 2016, "Ve Si Sai Gon" (Saigon Bodyguards) features two professional bodyguards and long-standing friends, one straightforward and the other a doof, going on a rescue mission to save a rich corporate heir who gets kidnapped right under their noses.

Local media reports said the American studios had contacted Kim Ly, the Vietnamese producer and also one of the two main actors in the original movie, to buy the rights a year ago, but he refused to reveal the amount involved.

American actor Chris Pratt and Chinese actor Wu Jing will lead the cast, the reports said.

Pratt is a 41-year-old American actor who became famous after acting in blockbusters like the "Guardians of the Galaxy" and the "Jurassic World."

Wu, 46, a Chinese martial artist and actor, is best known for starring and directing the film series "Wolf Warriors."

The movie will be produced by Pratt's own company, Indivisible Productions, alongside AGBO's producers Mike Larocca, and the famous Russo brothers, Anthony and Joe, who worked on several "Avengers" series alongside Pratt.

It's also reported that Alex Gregory and Peter Hyuck, who have worked on the hit comedy "What Men Want" and American political satire television series Veep, will write the remake’s screenplay.
