Updated: 11:20, 26/08/2021
Thai Son Kwiatkowski will compete in the men's single qualifiers of U.S. Open 2021.

Kwiatkowski, 226th in world rankings, will face the second seed of the qualifiers, Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo (107th) and Nagal Sumit, who’s 165th in the world and the second-best tennis player in India. This is considered a challenging fixture for Kwiatkowski.

Thai Son Kwiatkowski competes in the qualifiers of US Open in 2020.

Back in May, Kwiatkowski faced Cerundolo in the qualifiers of Roland Garros (French Open) and lost 1-2.

The qualifiers are set to take place from Aug. 24 to 27.

U.S. Open 2021 will set a new record in total prize money, with $57.5 million on offer, surpassing the previous high in 2019. It’s the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year. All games will be held on outdoor hard courts from Aug. 30 to Sept. 12.

The U.S.-born Kwiatkowski has a Vietnamese mother and a Polish father.

In February, he successfully obtained Vietnamese citizenship and is set to play for Vietnam's national tennis team at upcoming tournaments. He has played in three Grand Slam tournaments, including Australian Open, Roland Garros and U.S. Open.

Kwiatkowski has previously expressed his desire to play for Vietnam. He joined Hung Thinh Tennis Club for some domestic competitions in 2019, dominating them all.
