Vietnam's domestic Covid case count rises by 147

The Health Ministry announced another 147 Covid-19 patients Friday morning, with 118 recorded in Ho Chi Minh City.

Of the cases in the southern metropolis, 94 are those who had contact with Covid-19 patients and have already been isolated prior to their test results while the sources of transmission of 24 other cases are still unclear.

The remaining cases reported Friday morning are in nine localities in the south and central Vietnam.

Central Phu Yen Province got 10 cases that are all people having contact with existing coronavirus cases.

Dong Nai Province that borders HCMC registered five cases linked to a cluster at Hoc Mon wholesale market in the city's Hoc Mon District.

Mekong Delta's An Giang and Long An provinces recorded four and three cases each, and they are all associated with previously confirmed patients.

Two cases in the delta's Dong Thap Province are also related to HCMC's Hoc Mon market cluster.

The north central Nghe An Province reported two cases who had also come into contact with Covid-19 patients.

Central Ha Tinh and Khanh Hoa provinces reported one case each. They are two boys, aged seven and six, who are linked to existing patients in the provinces.

Binh Phuoc Province in the south reported one case as a 31-year-old man from in Mekong Delta's Tra Vinh Province who had contact with a patient in Binh Phuoc.

Over two months into its fourth wave, the most challenging that Vietnam has encountered, the country has recorded 14,335 cases in 51 of its 63 cities and provinces.

Bac Giang is leading the case count with 5,708 infections and the authorities there have said the outbreak will be put under control soon, followed by HCMC with 4,422.

The country has vaccinated around 3.8 million people, including 204,006 who have got two shots.
