Vietnam's tourist hotspots, food culture to be featured in Korean series

The Vietnamese episode of a video series promoting tourism across four ASEAN member countries will feature signature Vietnamese dishes and iconic destinations.

The ASEAN-Korea Center in Seoul is running a series of videos that introduce the tourist sites and cultural resources of Brunei, Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam to help South Koreans discover the charms of the region amid Covid travel restrictions.

The first episode, released on Aug. 31, highlights Brunei's lesser-known tourist attractions to Koreans while the final episode scheduled to be aired on Sept. 8 sheds light on Vietnam, one of the most frequently visited Southeast Asian countries by South Korean travelers.

The virtual tour will center on Vietnamese food culture, from popular dishes like pho bo (beef noodle soup), banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) and banh xeo (Vietnamese sizzling pancake), to Hue royal cuisine, considered the pinnacle of Vietnamese gastronomy.

The Vietnamese episode also introduces UNESCO heritage sites like Hoi An ancient town, Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex as well as popular tourism hotspots, including Phu Quoc Island, Nha Trang and Dong Van Karst Plateau.

The series is available on the ASEAN-Korea Center's YouTube channel.

South Korea was Vietnam's second biggest tourism market with a record high number of 4.3 million in 2019.

Vietnam closed its borders and canceled all international flights in March last year due to Covid.
