Volunteers swing into action for exam season
Volunteers at the exam venue of Ngo Si Lien High School in Bac Giang city congratulate candidates on completing the high school entrance exam for the 2018-2019 academic year. |
Give love to get love
During exam seasons, volunteers in blue shirts have always left good impressions on candidates and their parents. Despite the scorching heat or heavy rains, young volunteers are still present at exam venues and on streets leading to the destinations. Their bright smiles have encouraged candidates, reducing their stress and nervousness before the exam time.
During the national high school entrance exam for the 2018-2019 academic year on June 5-6, many residents and parents at the exam venue of Ngo Si Lien High School were impressed by the image of volunteers carrying candidates on their backs. On the first day of the exam, Tran Van Dat, a student from Hoang Van Thu ward, Bac Giang city, had to use the crutch to reach the exam venue as his leg was broken. Seeing that, volunteers Do Dang Ninh and Bui Viet Tung, in turn, carried Dat on their backs to his exam room.
To prepare for this year’s national high school graduation exam, youth unions across the province set up 42 volunteer teams, with each grouped by 30-35 members. The volunteers will deliver free water bottles to candidates and their relatives, and support them in unexpected circumstances. At the same time, they will join hands with police forces to ensure traffic order and safety. |
Ngo Thi Ngoc Anh, head of the volunteer team at Ngo Si Lien High School, said her team mobilized up to 36 volunteers who were ready with electric bikes, hats and raincoats and good health to provide timely support for candidates and their relatives during the high school entrance exam.
The school zoned off four rooms to store belongings of candidates, with each room monitored by three volunteers. There were volunteers delivering free-of-charge water bottles to candidates and their relatives at the school gate. Meanwhile, more than ten volunteers joined hands with police officers to ensure security, and traffic order and safety.
Up to 35 volunteer teams with over 1,400 youth union members were set up in the province during this year’s high school entrance exam.
Ready to give assistance
The high school graduation exam is scheduled to take place from June 25-27. Candidates will gather to complete procedures for the exam on June 24. High schools, vocational schools and continuing education centers have regularly implemented programmes in support of the exam.
Each school has conducted specific activities to help candidates like organizing training courses for volunteers and providing consultations for candidates; cleaning up rooms, and mobilizing water bottles and fans for candidates and their relatives during the exam.

Traffic jam often occurs at the school gate of Viet Yen High School in the early morning or the evening as the school is located on National Road 37, where many workers of Dinh Tram and Van Trung industrial parks traverse.
To ease the traffic jam, the volunteer team and the district’s police forces have coordinated with youth union members in Bich Son, Tu Lan, Thuong Lan, Viet Tien and Huong Mai communes and Bich Dong town to devise plans to ensure safety for the route as well as the school gate.
A representative of the youth union of the school said about 20 youth union members and policemen are expected to participate in ensuring traffic safety and order each day during the upcoming exam.
Dao Thi Huong, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Youth Union, said her union has instructed its chapters to effectively maintain activities of on-the-spot volunteers and local resources at exam venues.
