VTV Volleyball Cup 2018 features six international teams
The Vietnam national team finish in third place in last year's tournament. |
The information was announced by the organizing committee, Vietnam Television (VTV), during a press briefing in Hanoi on July 31.
The international invitees include teams from Japan’s Hokkaido University, Chung Hua University of Taiwan (China), the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Kazakhstan’s Altay club, and China’s Sichuan and Yunnan provinces.
The eight participants will compete in a group stage round robin to decide the rankings of each group.
Group A consists of Vietnam’s national team, Hokkaido University, Altay club, and Yunnan club, while the rest make up Group B.
Aiming to offer more matches for the participating teams, the organizing will apply the form of cross competition. Accordingly, the Group A winner will meet Group B’s fourth-place finisher, while the Group A runner-up will play Group B’s third-place team, and so on.
The next four winners will advance to the semifinals to decide the two finalists and the two teams who will play off for third-place.
The overall champions will receive a cash prize of US$10,000, while respective stakes of US$7,000, US$5,000, and US$2,000 will be awarded to the next three finishers. The organizers will also offer US$1,000 each as fair-play and consolation prizes.
